| | | We Are a Tourist Attraction now... < on 7/1/2004 4:09 PM >
| | | I know that just about every UE community online has the issue of the general public seeing our shit and getting the wrong ideas or calling the authroities or ARE the authorities. Being a tourist attraction, though, seems like a first. I dont know if you guys have seent his before, maybe its old news, but it bothers me a bit that alot of the sites I know of are listed here, on a travel website... http://www.travel-directory.org/Activities/Outdoors/Speleology/Urban_Speleology/index.html EDIT: Okay, maybe not a forum issue, per se, but definately an issue concerning the forums. Move if need be, though. [last edit 7/1/2004 4:10 PM by Plytheman - edited 2 times]

| | | That's really umm...strange. I'm glad I'm not on there. If I were, I think I would ask to have my site removed from theirs.

| | | Whoa, I never knew about that AdventureCity site. They do pretty interesting work. For introducing me to a new UE site, I'd say this is good rather than bad.

It's good if it allows UE'rs or potential UE'rs to access information... it's not good if it makes people think of UE as a tourist activity...

| | | I think of UE as a tourist activity. Whenever I'm out of town I try to find some nice sites to explore.

| | | Lets face it some strange odd weird sick people out there take trips to see abandoned buildings. I dont know who they would be or why they would want to do that. God forbid anyone ever saw that and started exsploring abandoned sites and taking pictures. I sure as hell wouldnt travel out of my town to see abandoned buildings....(look at my stars)

Yeah, but when I think "tourist" I think a seeker of pre-packaged "adventure", prepared with all the necessary removal of any actual unique experience or danger... in other words, something boring to all of us.

| | | Does nobody realize that these sites being n the ODP, and that data being mirrored on literally thousands of websites, has nothing to do with tourism or tourist attractions? Hell, one of my websites is on travel.com under /society/issues/personal multi issue pages/, and one is under /computers/internet/web design and development/hosting/ . Does that make my websites tourist destinations? No. This is such a meaningless thread...

| | | Krenta, I just thought it was interesting that all these sites were up on a travel website. Irony is, if any tourists get in touch with basicly any of the webmasters, no one will take them out anyplace... It was just the idea that all our sites are listed on a travel website..

| | | If people want on that DMOZ list (the one that's mirrored everywhere), you might try contacting Julia Solis of Dark Passage (http://www.darkpassage.com), as she maintains the "Urban Speleology" category. Ninj http://www.infiltration.org
