| | | | Experimenting with HDR, 1st attempt < on 3/4/2013 4:13 AM >
| | | So I know HDR isn't too popular here, and honestly I hate most HDR I see unless it's really well done. But I've decided to screw around with it for fun to see what I could come up with, and I'm actually kind of happy with this, though I'd like other opinions. Besides the HDR, I also split toned the image. The original colors in this basement really didn't do it for me, I've been doing a lot of straight-up black and white lately and I've always liked the look of split toning, so I gave it a shot here too. So anyways, I'm just trying something different, experimenting a bit. I definitely have no intention of doing this to every damned shot I take.

| | | I think you did an awesome job! Very good lighting along the corner. I think it worked out very well. And I do agree, #HDRonly people can get rather annoying...

| | | HDR stands for high dynamic range, meaning the image should hold a large amount of shadow and highlight detail. This photo is very high in contrast, notice the over exposed window and under exposed area below the stairs. While I like this photo a lot...it's not HDR. Here's a good example of HDR photography, notice this amount of detail that you can see in the highlights and shadows. 1. The picture is from Wikipedia.
No, Ethan, I don't have your lens cap... |

| | | Whilst, as mentioned previously, this photo is not an HDR photo - it is still a great a photo. Albeit there are overexposures, and underexposures, they give this photo an excellent feeling. My favorite part would be the most apparent focal point - what would appear to be a vinyl mat at the bottom of the stairs; This mat has an interesting reflection on it. This is now my desktop background.

| | | i agree nice pic but its not HDR.. HDR would of exposed some of the detail under the stairs and on the shadowed wall and probably ruined the pic...Im not against HDR at all but this pic looks fine to me with out it... nice work

| | | Valid points guys, maybe my terminology is just a bit off? Would it be more accurate to say this was my first attempt at tone-mapping? Also, thanks for all the love otherwise. This is only the second time someone's told me they're using my work as a desktop background, which honestly is completely fucking awesome to hear

| | | Nicely done. And if you do it correctly, HDR is not so bad after all, and you will not see a lot of difference between a normal photograph and a HDR photograph. Except the Lighter parts, and the darker parts. ( not mine, but it's HDR ) Source

| | | definitely a nice shot, I agree with the other posts, If you took more exposures or widened your bracketing it might work a little better. Keep up the good work!
