second exploration: the mill

This was my second trip exploring, this time with a local member from this site named moldymonstar. We hit up a really old mill in town. It didn't really go as planned though. As we approached the only entrance not guarded by watchful eyes, we looked in, all we could see was a clean looking concrete floor, or what we thought was concrete. Me, being the Guinea pig I hopped down from the window, about 6 or 7 feet off the floor, as I landed, the "floor" gave out from under me. Now this part may not make sense without a little back story. We had recently had a ton of snow, at least 2 feet, this snow melted turning into water which flooded the entire basement of the building with a foot of water, a solid foot. This said water then refroze into a thick sheet of ice on the floor. This is what we though was concrete, and when I hit the ground, I broke through the floor of ice, and to the floor. I was standing there in a pool of near frozen water with a layer of broken ice around my ankles. I quickly made my way to a mound of dirt in the center of the room were I began to take pictures. The layout of the building was a little odd, I couldn't walk around much due to the layer of ice. The really bad part was the ceiling was collapsing. I don't know why I didn't think to get any pictures of it, but if I go back, I will.

Looks like a cool old mill. sucks though that the owner has let it just rot away like that and hasn't taken any measures to preserve it.

my thoughts exactly, theres been talk for years of someone planning on buying it and turning it into a museum of sorts, I don't think any of the people who spread those rumors have seen how far gone the inside is. I havent seen much of the inside, but from what I saw, if the rest is like that no one in their right mind would buy that. next time I go back (with a nice pair of rubber boots of course) ill see if I can find the stairs to the next floor. If you look in picture 16, you can see what seems to be an arch to another room thats been buried in the rubble of the next floor.

It'll buff out.
