Idiots just gotta go do dumb things on cranes and ruin it for the rest of us. Who the hell thinks, "yes I want to swing off this crane into a wall." He had to figure he was going to hit.

I'd imagine he just didn't know that cranes aren't always set in one heading in case of high winds. If I remember correctly, they're loose so that they can weather-vane. With the rope tied to the end, it created a large enough moment to spin the crane, which caused him to hit the wall.

As I said already. Do your research, stay alive.

On a side note, they've put up razor wire around the top of the plywood now. Your best bet now involves felony charges, and I'd advise against that.

There is another small crane here in Boulder, and there's no shame in climbing small ones.

How would anyone even think to do something so stupid? How would they climb back up the rope?

Ummm...ascenders? It's reasonably simple.

I've set up a rope swing before, albeit not on a crane. It's great fun, and can be very safe under controlled circumstances. Obviously there was a variable they were not accounting for.

The two young men that decided to make a rope swing off of the crane did not do their homework, and paid the price dearly.

When it really comes down to it though, some people's risk vs. reward ratio is different than yours. Does that make them stupid? ...That's not for me to judge.
