Posted by Therrin I didn't see it, but was on the way to meet up with a fellow explorer at a location.
He saw a handful of cracked-out, teeth-missing, vest-wearing, armed guys pushing lawnmowers through a drift down inside one of our favorite mines. In the middle of the desert.

A rocking horse in the middle of a dirt floor basement in an old abandoned farmhouse. Nothing else was in there except a shelf of mason jars filled with who knows what.
Also, children's toys in the basement of an abandoned insane asylum.

While exploring an abandoned house I found hundreds of newspapers about murder cases, small animals in jars, various animal skulls, squirrel and chipmunk pelts, and letters from the Massachusetts Department of Corrections.
I'm curious to know how many of you understand why this is creepy.

Some time back I added photos to my website of a mine that Therrin, another UER member, and I visited out in Death Valley. It's a long climb down to that level so we stopped and ate lunch before heading back out of the mine.
Some months later I was contacted by an old guy who was the mine foreman and had excavated the incline that led down from where we took the photos. He asked if I believed in ghosts or seen anything strange while we were down there. Evidently the ore skip that we sat on for our pictures had jumped the rails while being winched up the incline crushing to death the two miners who were riding on it. Kind of creepy in retrospect.
Oh yeah the guy sent me a hand-drawn mine profile just to confirm that the guy wasn't a jokester. A few other explorers communicated with him as well. He was the real deal.

One of the first abandoned houses I visited (12yo maybe) along the cellar steps on the way up to the first floor was lined along the wall with deformed/baby sheep fetuses.

In the old cannery in Simcoe Ontario there was about seven or so bed frames and a pile more sleeping bags that were all put next to each other on the bottom level. It seemed like a group of homeless had lived there together and since left. The only creepy part was a collection of McDonalds toys and children's books left at the site. I can't imagine the life of a homeless child living in there.

Crepiest thing he ever saw while exploring was the time he went into an abandoned washroom and looked in the mirror.

I'm surprised he didn't do this, then make a youtube video of it, deploring himself for daring to stand in his own way and gaze upon himself while exploring.
>>>RE: Abby's Post
Abby, I thought the way he described it was that when the ore skip hopped over and derailed, at least one of the guys riding on it was "caught between the skip and a timber and torn in half". Torn. IN HALF. He said at the time there was a massive red stain on the timbers around there. I unfortunately don't have a photo of it, but someone had filled up a jacket and pair of pants with garbage and attached them to a fence. Out of the corner of the eye it looked exactly like a body hanging from a fence. I freaked.

Oh yeah, I do that shit all the time. In fact, I Home Alone the shit out of some places. mutantMandias may cause dizziness, sexual nightmares, and sleep crime. ++++ mutantMandias has to return some videotapes ++++ Do not taunt mutantMandias

A life sized Kermit the frog doll with all the limbs torn off, eyes crossed out, a noose around the neck and razor blades around it in an abandoned train.
and I-- I took the path less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

This.
Until I realized it was fake of course. Paper mache stuffed inside a shirt with some kind of liquid that always looks like fresh blood. It even came complete with blood hand stains on the wall. Freaked me right out when I first saw it. And the second time to be honest, until my sister went up and found out what it really is.
The sign said "Anybody caught trespassin will be shot on sight" So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house, "Hey! What gives you the right?" http://www.flickr.com/photos/evman/

Pretty close. I worked a 3rd shift in some big mall a couple of years ago and took a peek inside a far away blocked-off section of this retail place, a men's room that clearly hadn't been used in a couple of decades. One door at the end of a gritty, dirt-dark hallway. And through that door into that dark space...about 250 mannequins, hideous and terrifying in their intermingled arrangement. Arms akimbo. Blank dead faces. Wigs for a few. Reflected in the sprawling men's-room bathroom mirror, 250 multiplied.
