|  | | | Sorry for posting every few days but work has been slow, and idle hands lead to flickr uploads, and flickr uploads lead to new threads...
As I drove through small town after small town, I started to let "Trucker Mode" take a hold of me. Something I perfected on long hauls from ATL to NOLA and Memphis when I was a driver. You just drive, aware of everything and yet nothing all at the same time. Your music plays softly in the background, your thoughts wander to god knows what, and the time passes. Just about the only thing that can penetrate your bubble is the ever so sexy computerized voice of the Lady Box (GPS). And it was the will of God that she spoke to me when she did. I looked to my left to check out the road which I would be turning on in a few minutes and there it was... In all it's glory and decay. A random brick building which I instantly knew to be a school. I pulled around back to find an entire parking lot just for little old me. I threw my pack over my shoulder, waved to the curious people living across the street, and went on in.
There is no history lesson today because I couldn't find diddly squat on this property. It appears to have been an elementary school, then a christian school, and then a christian youth center.

Thanks!! And I agree, random finds are the best... I always keep my pack and a change of clothes in my SUV at all times.

Found a few hot wheels in my garden. This was before I had a kid but I had to just sit there for awhile and think of the kid who played in that dirt....maybe mom called him in for lunch and he jumped up and ran inside, leaving that little car for me to find years later.
That swing shot pretty much sums up exploring for me! factories sorta do this for me too when I think of all the guys who slaved away for years....I can relate!

I couldnt agree more, and I love your example of the hot wheels!! I always find myself taking extra time to photograph toys when I find them. And as far as factories go...

Its amazing if you really stop and think about how these employees new what was coming and could do nothing about it. And to make matter worse many times companies would close a week or two early, cutting the employees final check in half, just to try and prevent any riots or lock ins.

I"m not sure where that county is, but this school is on the western side of the state. I hope that answers your question, I don't have time to look up where that county is at the moment haha

I love this!!!! I have some shots of a local mill here, and the few folks that I have showed them to have been so excited to see them. And to hear "oh I used to play baseball on that field when I was a kid", and then to have them tell me about what it was like... I couldn't agree with you more!!!

Well, that makes it rather unlikely. The school I'm considering is in the north-east, due north of Darlington. If I manage to get up there another time, I'll be sure to grab some pictures. Maybe. No promises.
And suspense is easily avoided with a simple bit of forum exploration; learning the ropes and rules as such.
