The fact that they're charging $100 to go see the outsides of buildings is really stupid.

There's no way they have managed to get documentation saying they can LEGALLY enter all (or any) of those buildings considering the shape they're in. So not only is this tour boring, but boarding on illegal as well.

Anyways, it seems like these people are ill informed and are now just exploiting these abandoned buildings for their own personal gain. Which I personally think is disgusting.

Hahaha that's brilliant, having that flyer public and all... now on 3/16 I'm gonna go wait in one of those buildings and rob every single one of them when they show up! Anybody want some cameras?

I recall someone (else?) tried something equally-dumb last year and ultimately it was cancelled. I think it's in the Main forum somewhere.

Well, best of luck to them in any case. Personally, I've been in all those locations (some multiple times) for free, but there are worse ways to spend $100.00, after all...

It seems stupid to us, because we are not their target audience. For a group of photographers who know nothing about UE, or, for whatever reason, don't want to take the risks, this is a great way to get a chance to shoot these places. I'm always happy to see people outside of the exploring community actually appreciating these places.

That said, $100 does seem a bit high...

It's pretty obvious the target audience of this, christ the meeting point is the parking lot at MACYS!

I vote R3D makes a glorious comeback and chucks their motor home off the roof of Packard.

"In today's news 25 people were robbed while entering the Packard Plant", I do need a new DSLR come to think of it. Anyone game for some free camera gear and shiny lenses?

Reminds me of the time the Toronto Urban Exploration Meetup.com group decided to post about a trip to the "H" plant in Toronto, complete with a photo of the Hearn stack.

On the day of the trip, the security was out in full force, and when the group of 20+ people wandered down the road with cameras and tripods, the security just told them to get lost. So they did.

A small group of us had snuck inside previously, with the intention of surprising the Meetup.com group in the plant, and we ended up stuck inside for several hours until the security guards got tired of waiting and left. But it was a lot of fun!

It just seems so risky, the liability concerns are huge. The thought of trying to control a group of 30 plus people inside of the Packard is a nightmare. You are asking yourself to lose someone.

Their timeline indicates getting to the Pack probably 11ish, after a slow trip down, which is downright moronic.

I think there was a meetup group that not too long ago was trying to do something similar in Gary. Charging to show people around sites, I think a group lunch was included somewhere...

You ain't kidding, quite a few of us are definitely not happy about this. It's one thing to come to the city to take some shots, have a good time and then "bounce back to the burbs", but a damn TOUR BUS!? $@&^(#!!! Are you kidding me? If these people don't get robbed I am going to be very surprised, but I know better, I'll be hiding in the building somewhere to get it on tape in case the news needs it.

Quite by coincidence, I saw them... Parked all over the sidewalk in front of the Gary post office. Nothing says "We've arrived!!!" quite like parking right by the front door with three or four nice new SUVs. Heck, everyone else parks across the street and down half a block so they blend in with the cars at the little church that is there; I guess these guys (and ladies) are too cool for that.
