Not much left at Solvay in Milwaukee. I was there over the weekend, scrappers have demolished this place. Even starting to peel apart the stairs to the 2nd level as they're made out of steel. What drugs do to people. These are from August 2012. Enjoy

I was just there the other night. There were cart tracks and carts with metal all over. Its amazing what people will scavenge.

You know when you've found it because you can feel it when they take it away.

This was by far the coolest thing ever at Solvay.

How do the folks that are buying scrap not question where folks are getting it from? Is there no question of being implicated for buying stolen goods?

They usually only care on stuff that the law cares about. Like copper. Otherwise they dont give a shit. We had over $30K+ of metal urns stolen from our local cemeteries last year. You would have thought the recyclers would have had a red flag tossed up with thousands of burial urns coming in every week....

Such a shame... I mean, really- that place has been kinda doneski for a while now, but I hate to see it actually go. The front buildings were pretty cool (esp. before the lab was completely trashed) and...well... it was my the first factory I ever explored as a wee little high schooler :'(

Also yeah, the scrappers are incredibly blatant there. I met a few two winters ago who were walking back and fourth between the admin buildings and a scrap yard 3 blocks away with a radio-flyer full of wiring and light fixtures-- fucking vultures.

If photography is a function of the photographer then I will contentedly buy all my gear on craigslist. (/from livestrong2009)
