Tacoma-Seattle: I NEED ADDRESSES!

Hi all, I'm a Tacoma-Seattle are native. I started doing Urbex a few years, before I even knew it was a thing. I would go down to the local industrial park at night and sneak into junkyards, warehouses, or rooftops, just to be there. Anyway, I'm looking for some new places to hit up in the area, and I would really appreciate some addresses. I'm new to the site, so I obviously don't have access to most of the addresses on the Washington-specific maps page.

Please help so I don't just have to keep driving around aimlessly!

Here are a few of my better urbexy photos for your enjoyment, most of which are from WA. I have more in B&W that I might scan...

If we have to keep driving around aimlessly, it stands to reason so do you. Besides, it's a good way to see the sights.

Damn, those are great photos. I feel that was constructive. It just seems to rattle a few cages when you ask where you should go, I guess.

You might find that Harbor Island, on a weekend could be of interest to you. But I am also just driving around looking for something shiny. Have fun.

Don't worry about not having access to the location database. There really isn't much listed there. You'd have better luck meeting up with people that are familiar with the area and are willing to go exploring with you. People will usually share locations face to face. It's not generally a good idea to post them online.

Have you ever done the Seattle Underground? I am not talking about the public tour one. What I've heard is the one open to the public is only a small percentage of what is available to explore. Just wonder how to get in otherwise?

I've heard of people exploring certain parts of it that aren't on the tour, but it's always been a "my buddie's sister's cousin's 3rd uncle is a maintenance guy at a old building down there" kinda story. I have yet to meet anyone with access, but it's all about who you know and who you meet sometimes. I've visited some cool old Naval sites and vessels that was in past years, but unfortunately don't have those contacts anymore.

A good tip is to always keep your ears open for possible "ins" with people. You never know when the chatty customer you have ends up being a security guard for a private security company who might have access to cool places, or has a friend who works for a city department that has access to underground areas. ;)

I wish my father was alive, he got a complete list of all known access points to the Seattle Underground, steam tunnels, etc, from SPD. He needed it because he was the regional director of the Census and in charge of the 1980 Census for the seven state NW region.

He then sent a single Census worker with two Seattle Seahawk, each, into the tunnels to count the residents living down there. They all went in groups of three because the cops always went in pairs. He even went into some of the tunnels himself. He told me it was a huge success.

That would be awesome info now for exploration.

How many areaways are there?

There are 115 in the Pioneer Square Historical District.

XVIII. AREAWAYS
Areaways are usable areas constructed under the sidewalk between the building foundation and street wall. Areaways were created after the Great Seattle Fire of 1889 when the District was rebuilt and the street elevations were raised. Building standards adopted shortly after the fire required fireproof sidewalk construction to replace the pre-fire wooden sidewalks. Areaways are part of the City’s right-of-way area, however, the space is often available for use by the adjacent building owner. (7/03)
The most significant qualities of an areaway are its volume of space, which provides a record of its history, and the architectural features that render its form, character, and spatial quality. These features include use of unit materials (brick or stone), bays articulated by arches and/or columns, ceiling vaults, and other special features including tilework or skylights (sidewalk prism lenses). The historic characteristics of areaways shall be preserved. (7/03)
In 2001, the Seattle Department of Transportation completed a survey of approximately 100 areaways in the District. Each areaway was rated in terms of its structural condition and presence of original historic characteristics. A range of structural repairs options were proposed based on the structural and historical ratings. The 2001 Seattle Department of Transportation Areaway Survey shall serve as a guide for the Board’s decision making on future alterations or repairs to areaways in the District. (7/03)

City departments collaborated to provide an opportunity to upgrade broadband capabilities along 1st Ave. S. The chosen service provider, Comcast , is working with the owners of 14 buildings along 1st Ave. S. in order to gain access to building tenants via the areaways. If successful, Comcast anticipates providing broadband service to 50 new customers.

Hey I love the pictures, especially the light painting. One question though, what sort of lights were you using on number 11?
