My exploring partner has relocated to Fayetteville, NC . She will be there three months and neither of us know anything about that area. So I'm getting started with my "usual" new location research.
If there's anyone local to the area or just familiar, I would really appreciate your response, an email or message. We're willing to do the research and the footwork but would like to know what kind of places we can expect to find.
Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

The best locations are the ones you discover yourself.

Thanks for your reply, and I whole heartedly agree.

I tried to be clear that I wasn't asking for locations. The research and the "ride outs" are all part of what I love about doing this.

Was hoping for generalities about the area; if there were others from there that use this forum - maybe make some new associations.

Thanks again, for your response to my post.

Look up Acid Park. It's at this weird 5-way intersection so that it's easy to find on google maps. You can't do much more than take pictures of it, but bring flashlights for the reflectors.

Nearby there are some abandoned things. Also, you aren't too far out from the Raleigh crew, who do things pretty often. Like all of the SouthEast, crawl along train tracks, rivers, and old highways (In person or on google maps) to find the gold.

Acid Park (aka Vollis Simpson's Whirligig Farm) isn't what it used to be. Most of the whirligigs have been sold to the city of Wilson and taken down, to be restored and then installed in a park in downtown Wilson at the site of a former tobacco warehouse.

The last time I saw Vollis's place, almost exactly a year ago, over half of the whirligigs were gone. I'm sure more of them have been taken down since then. The park is due to open at the end of 2013.

The one I've been to was not in downtown Wilson.

Yeah, I know. The one you've been to used to be outside of Lucama at the intersection of Wiggins Mill Rd, Windmill Rd, and Vollis Shop Rd. It's now in the process being taken down and moved to downtown Wilson.

Aw, damn. Well the haunted school isn't far from there.
