Let me stand next to your fire(house)

Or, more specifically, inside it.
Apologies in advance if this site has been posted a thousand times.

I pass this abandoned firehouse on my daily training ride, and while I've always wanted to go in, it's right at the point in my ride where I really start ape-ing it so I pedal on and look wistfully as I put it off once more. You don't get faster exploring old buildings, right?

Finally went over with a few friends and was struck by two things - the amount of perfectly serviceable equipment left behind, and the sheer capacity the fire station had to maintain the trucks. I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me previously, but you can't really take a hook-and-ladder to Jiffy Lube. These guys were doing all their own wrenching on site. See? Firefighters are even more badass than you thought.

The records, particularly with regard to the trucks, were staggering in both scope and depth. There was a ton of scheduling stuff - calendars and itineraries aplenty, which I love - insight into the day to day.

Only bad news? They had removed the poles. I guess I'd have moved in if they hadn't, so not all bad...

#3 comes from the "hose room". Literally dozens upon dozens of hoses. Most stretched out to full length (the room had to be angles between two floors to contain their length) and several stacks of coiled hoses, like these, in slightly worse shape.

Thanks for noticing, guys.

+1 If you ever look at my posts, you'll notice I ALWAYS explore wearing a Hendrix shirt. It's one of my 'lucky cigarettes'.

Good shots Bahamontes. I like the first pic of the microphone best. Had my eye on this spot for a bit just not the chance to do it yet. Glad you did it though. Hope to see you around.

Thanks, Once-ler. The microphone shot comes from the maintenance facility behind the actual firehouse, which was full of great stuff.

I'll be at the Festicle Thursday, and would be happy to lead a little tour.

Well then, Festicle has achieved it's primary purpose.

#3 is delicious.

^ This ^ It warms the crooked corners of my black little heart to just be spreading a little of the joy around to all.

Well... um.... about this...

Its mostly a problem with the auto-set with the event calendar. All apologies.
Its been an issue for a while now and it usually gets corrected well before the event and no one ever notices. Now, Opheliaism swore an oath to me that she will indeed address the problem most promptly, and without hesitation or remorse she will bring the most punitive and physically degrading justice to bear upon the offending party and to a few others just for good measure.

So yes children, the Festicle is still set for the 10th, the second Saturday of every other month.

Unless we just feel like screwing around.
