|  | | | The building where I live is 29 stories, 31 for the top roof...when we first moved in the second phase was in the pit stage. Nxt phase two has now reached it's top height of 36 stories if I recall correctly, so I decided to finally get up there to get some shots.
I stopped by Hearn first to see what was happening down at my local haunt and sure enough, another movie being filmed, this time, Robocop. Didn't make it in due to well placed security cars so I grabbed a shot from the front and moved along.

Checked out L Tower again but it was busy as hell and I didn't have the patience to wait it out so I made for home and the second phase.

On my way down I heard screeching tires and caught a glimpse of a car sliding across the grass median headed eastbound. This girl lost control of her car coming off the Gardiner on to Lakeshore. Skidded for 120+m according to the cop I spoke with, missed two trees and two lamp standards before coming to a stop facing eastbound in the westbound lanes, in the intersection of Lakeshore and Windermere. When I got over there she was talking to two guys who stopped to help, she told them she was drunk, had no insurance and offered to pay them to get her out of it. Kids....don't drink and drive! She was cuffed and taken away

Well in fairness, insurance is useless if your driving drunk. Most insurance companies will do whatever it takes to deny you coverage if you are convicted of being impaired and cause an accident or damage to city/provincial property (signs/barriers).

Lucky this girl only caused damage to her car, she will likely just be stuck with a DUI and a damaged car. If she hit any city property, that can get REALLY expensive and insurance isn't going to cover it if she is convicted.
That said, people do get off DUI's... money talks.

unfortunately people willing to drive while intoxicated and without insurance are probably just as willing to drive without a license too!

Yeah, people who drive without insurance, even sober, won't really give a damn if their license is taken away. You only get busted if you get stopped. Penalties for this kind of crap are relatively light.

Much harder to do with license plate scanners like Toronto Police have, and OPP in some areas. All your info comes (Insurance/plate expiry/driver info/criminal record/etc) up on their screen as soon as your plate is in view of the front of the cruiser.

Vehicles can be legally licensed, but that's no guarantee that the person behind the wheel is licensed or insured, or even if they are the owner. I'd bet you'd be pretty surprised how many motorcycle riders there are out there that don't have their motorcycle endorsement, just for example.

Oh I'm very aware. Especially seeing as I used to ride a motorcycle around backroads with plates that expired in 1989... this was around 2002.
