My heart always thumps like hell before i go somewhere I'm not supposed to be. Can't possibly imagine this isn't known about by most of you folks within reasonable range. Guess is I just can't DB it. But it's a gorgeous facility! Going back next weekend to do a proper day in, but we checked it out yesterday for a few hours, and were simply enthralled. I went with a newer buddy here (we only recently found and joined uer...kudos to her for the actual find) and brought an old adventuring friend to introduce them. Was a blast. We drove around a bit, doing basic recon on the place and getting far-off pics. The infil/extract (I guess I can't give much in the way of specifics yea?) were exhilarating, and had distinct elements of security, but it was a blast. Nature is reclaiming this place to such a degree that it's hard to tell where the line between earthen/construction is, in some places. At one point, we THINK we were on top of a building, but it might've just been a berm. We got a few basic pics and we had a lot of fun. 1.

Looks yummy, yea? This was near where we started our adventure, some old reservoir.

2.

And, obviously, the piping leading from or to it. Segment removed between this point and source. Maybe a pump system, of some sort?

3.

One of the main buildings. I'm not going into too much detail, because I have research to do, before our trip, next weekend. As well, I don't wanna just post the same stuff.

4.

Just realized this is upside down...but I'm not going to fix it.

5.

Your friendly neighborhood Ghost. I love floors and old, broken tile.

7.

Rx Queen and a longtime buddy, Brandon.

8.

Smokestacks.

9.

Hole in floor. Looks pretty dank down there, yea?

10.

Big pot.

11.

And...smokestacks.

More to come!

was very sad to see in this condition. For Ensley to have once been it's own thriving city (thanks to TCI), only to become a crappy "neighborhood" of Birmingham... tragic.

Glad you got to see this AdrenalGhost, I've heard that there is still some cool stuff to look at out there and without doubt no shortage of history to dig up. Let us know if you come across any old pics, I love those best. I'll post here a linky to some excellent stuff that VBJag did some time ago on this spot. Yes, this spot is in the DB but you just couldn't see it yet.

Linky-

There is much goodness to be seen in Alabama and I've been meaning to stop by this spot at some point in the future. I've been concentrating my explorez lately to the east in SC, but now I'm feeling the pull west again and the urge to revisit the wonderful area of Birmingham.

Let us know if ya do! We're going back to TCI this coming weekend for a full day of investigation. Well be sure to sort and post pics pretty quick. And it really is beautiful. Doesn't look like it sees much traffic, either. For the most part, people have left it untagged, from our brief looks.

One suggestion I would make is to be fairly careful about name dropping of locations when you post. Its not such a big deal with this spot being so well known and so stripped but there are many things that are still in nice condition at other locations and folks can be a mite touchy if you know what I mean. Most locations we usually just refer to by nickname only and folks get the point. Good luck with explorz!

I never knew that the T in TCI stood for Tennessee... Why? It's not in TN!

The company originally operated within Tennessee. But they moved mostly to bama due to land holdings and ease of accessibility. I'm working off some basic research, but I plan on visiting the library, this week. I can't wait to walk in looking like a mudball, asking for info on some decrepit old mill. I get looks, sometimes. But I get off at 3, so I'm always after work doin stuff.
