Here are some pics of a "ghost town" I visited a while back... The first pics are of the old jail, you can still see the bars on the windows. The other building is the old courthouse. The ruins are deep on private property, and in Texas that means DANGEROUS to explore without permission. The actual location is easily reachable by foot, but you will have to park on the road, which is patrolled by DPS and DHS. The old cemetery is right off the main road, is pretty cool, and is labeled as a historic site with a plaque on the road.

With some basic map skills, google areal view, the links below, and the historic cemetery, its pretty easy to figure out where the ruins are.

Some history of the town:

Great location. I wonder if the Masonic symbol on that cornerstone means they left something in it?

Very cool! I actually have this marked on my map as one of many ghost towns to visit. The first item on my list is the hunt down the ruins of Lime City, TX.

I would guess that the symbol is a remnant from a time when Stone Masons were actual tradesmen. Besides, if there's anything inside, you'd have to tear the whole place down to find it. You can see in Pic#6, the roof is pretty much completely caved in and the second floor has collapsed into the first. I took picture 7 by sticking my camera through a loose board in one of the windows. There is no safe way, or good reason to climb inside.

The Jail was open... but it is just the shell, there was nothing worth seeing inside. Plus, there was an awesome spider web across the door, and an iPhone size spider in the middle of it. It wasn't even so much that it was pretty gross (which it was), there was no reason to ruin it, just to walk around the emptiness...

The glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

"I wonder if the Masonic symbol on that cornerstone means they left something in it?"

No, not likely. The Masonic Lodge was called upon to lay the cornerstone on most public buildings such as that one, which was the courthouse, back in the day and still do in some towns and cities. The cornerstone is always located as near as possible to the NE corner of the building.

The cornerstone is usually made of either solid limestone or granite in Texas. I've been involved in setting the cornerstones at several schools.
