Random bits and pieces of more un-urban exploring

So I have been to different abandoned places, mainly houses and what have you (see past archived posts) but the bulk of my exploring is actually more outside of town. Im a fan of history, mainly military history. Some of the pictures displayed here are of places that require nothing to get into and they may be in your own back yard closer than you think. I hope im not being disruptive on the board, I just wanted to share these.

NIKE Base C-51 IFC remains. not much to see alot has been destroyed and filled in.

Keepataw Woods, Lemont, IL Canal construction remains. This is a neat area due to the incinerator remains and just the random items that were scattered across the woods.

NIKE base C-72 Addison, IL This is a particularly interesting base. It is the only one around the area I live that is still intact partially. The original buildings are here and the radar which I believe is the LOPAR. Note this park (NIKE park) was the control post so there are no blast doors or Acid fueling stations. That is about a mile away, unassailable and destroyed.

Red Gate Woods, Lemont or Willow Springs IL. This is the home of the first reactor. It was build first in UIC but as soon as scientists found out that it worked it was brought to a safer grounds. Buried below is the rubble of this reactor and its attributes. This site was recently reopened when nuclear levels went down.

Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, Elwood/Joliet, IL. This is my favorite in the area. This is the Joliet Arsenal. Closed in the Early 90's the arsenal saw wold wars, Nam even desert storm!! Completely open for viewing this arsenal also hosts some areas that are not meant to be viewed but are accessible. Just gotta find em!

Thats all I can think of at this time, I hope you have enjoyed this little post. If any further information is needed about any of these places, feel free to PM me..... Its fall, thats my exploring time!

nice!

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.

Thanks for sharing the photos, and the Arsenal history as well.
