| | | Im not sure where to put this thread, hopefully this is the right place. Ive spotted a few places that I would like to get more info on. Doing a Google search isn't working. Is there a website that anyone knows of that is able to tell me when the business closed, why and any other interesting information?

| | | I've tried googling places to see if they were open or not. Problem is that for alot of them no one bothered to update the web listings after they abandoned or even reused them. I don't know if there's some big intact database somewhere out there, but my searching always lead me in circles.

If the building's for sale, check the realtor's listings.
Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing. |

| | | I've occasionally found info about businesses by searching newspaper databases. Results from these newspapers don't usually turn up in Google searches, but they're made available to libraries and other institutions on a subscription basis. Here in North Carolina, I can access some of them through NCLive by entering my public library card number. Maybe there's something similar at your public library. http://www.nclive.org/browse/journals Alternately, many of the same databases are available at college and university libraries, although you usually have to sign in with a student ID to use them. Know any college students (or are you in college)? All that being said, a lot of my searches seem to be a whole lot of work for a whole lot of nothing, but every once in a while I'll find the newspaper article that tells me when a place opened, when it closed, and why it closed.

| | | I have always wondered this too! I've looked for hours on google for locations and sometimes i find something useful most the time nothing. There's got to be some sort of records of what buildings are uninhabited in the area, maybe the local fire department?

| | | Lots of Google searching, or you can try your local library, but very often, the best, or often ONLY way to get more information about a place is just to go in and see what you find!
