|  | | | This past week the Henry Barnard School in Tulsa, Oklahoma burned down. Workers had been cutting some materials in the basement, and left smoldering embers when they went home for the day. When fire teams came to extinguish the school, there was a rare double backdraft which caused a massive explosion, badly injuring three of the firefighters. The Tulsa school board had already closed this school in 2011, but officials had acquired funding to re-open this school, as the Tulsa School for Arts and Science, for this year. Before re-opening the school several investors had placed bids on the property wanting to make it into lofts, and even a nursing home. Most homeowners in the community wanted the building to remain a school, which helped it re-open. I have been to the school several times in the past week, and there is armed security 24 hours a day. They immediately put up fencing around the perimeter. I am certain the community is not going to allow this building to remain standing so I went ahead an got what photos I could, fearing it won't be here long. The school was built in 1929. | | | | I like 6 and 9, I thought those two were pretty righteous. As far as walking around in a burned down building goes though, I'd advise against it just on general principal, but if you absolutely must, then wear head protection of some sort.

| | | | Thanks Jakk. My favorites were 8 and 11. There was one more shot of the sidewalk that I forgot to add. It was a stamp in the cement that said WPA/1938. I hear what you are saying about the hard hat, however there is nothing overhead in the buildings. The school had recently got a new metal roof, but they didn't remove the prior roof when applying it. The firefighters peeled back large sections of roof to pour water onto the flames, but the pre-existing roof caused the water to go into the gutters of the old roof, allowing no water to actually get to the flames. I am not sure if the security is to stop looters, or prevent kids from getting hurt, or both. I doubt there is much left to see, but I will keep checking back.
