|  | | | Well, I'm pleased to announce that the IM block feature is finished. You'll find a new option at the bottom of any Instant Message you receive.
When a user is in your block list, they won't be able to email or IM you via the forum.
Instead of banning people who bother me, I will simply block them. They may not care now, but chances are they will want some form of favour from me in the future ('av, can you delete my locationDB entry?' 'av, can you change this' 'av can you do this or that') and that's when they'll wish they were kinder.
Of course, this option is available for everyone.
The feauture will NOT block IM's sent by the automatic "Deleted post" system. Sorry Gordo

| | | | Many businesses can/will refuse service to someone who is being irate/abusive, and that is at places where people are actually paying for services. Most businesses also have a right to refuse service. I don't see why this should be any different, especially because it is paid for mostly out of pocket by Av.
I definately think that people should be able to express dissenting opinions and have disagreements with mods, but there is no need to become abusive. Isn't there already a rule or stipulation in the user agreement about being abusive towards other members? Maybe that rule should just be enforced (and yes, to all members including mods), instead of adding a new one. If people are irate/abusive, they should be warned and if the behavior continues, eventually banned. There is no need for that. I've gotten quite upset with a few people on the board in the past, and even then I don't think that I ever went so far as to be abusive towards them. It might not be easy, but it's the civil thing to do.
