| | | I happened to be passing by the ghost town of Meridian Friday, so though I would swing by an check it out. Man, the "paved" road to it is like a minefield. Wish I would have had more time, several places I would like to have explored in more detail. No history here, just some pics.

| | | Wonderful photos. The yellow dress & purse in the last one is a nice touch. I have family in Guthrie; I'm going to have to check this place out next time I'm there--looks like it's pretty close. Thanks for posting! [last edit 8/27/2012 6:46 PM by AtticAddict - edited 1 times]

| | | Nice set of photos. I love the brick building, and would love to live in that place. Do you know what it was?
I own you, don't I? |

| | | Both the brick and sandstone building were schools. The stone building was built by the WPA in the 30's, though I didn't find a WPA plaque. The brick school was a black school originally. Built in 1950 under the "separate but equal" program Oklahoma had going up until the end of segregation. Both schools were closed in 1970 I think, and the students were shipped to nearby Guthrie. I like to explore both, but they were locked up tight and no sign of anyone that could have allowed access. The old WPA school had been a church and community center at some point in the past, but neither appeared to be in any type of real use.
