Oregon and washington

Wow. Oregon's awesome in terms of natural beauty, but not so much for exploring structures. Same with washington state. Although, I have to say, if you're in the area of mount st helen's, explore the Ape Caves. Bring flashlights, warm clothes and wear boots. explore the upper cave (you will be climbing over rocks). Awesome lava caves with no light. made for great light paintings. no one was there.

Nice to see some recent images from that complex. Those escape slides were great for window access last winter.

The best structures for exploring are on the other side of the mountains, I think:

Wow! Were these other photos you posted here (other than the caves) taken in Oregon or Washington? Awesome set!

Hey, Washington totally has structures if you know where to look! Been meaning to check out the ape caves, though.

reckless thoughts abide; anachronistic and impulsive.

loosely jacketed against the cold and ten thousand worlds for the choosing.

Nice set! I've been to the lower Ape Cave, not the upper one- that's my next one to tackle when I make it down there.

Great pictures! How did you get the refraction and blur around the edges of the shot on 12? I think it gives the scene an unsettling yet great look to it!

Love 3, and the second number 2, both places I would love to visit. I have found that Washington (especially so close to Seattle) make it hard to find good places to explore, but it's finding the smaller forgotten places that are really fun. I have a short list of 4 places to explore tomorrow afternoon, hopefully it goes all well and I can get some great pics. We tend to lack some of the amazing locations like old state hospitals and the such that the East Coast seems to have in such supply.

Great shots, keep em coming.

Refraction/blur based on the fact i have a wide angle lens and zoom in from far away. it was an awesome mistake when i did it the first time and loved the effect so much i now do it often!

I am confused. How do you zoom in from far away with a wide angle lens?

Far out! Great representations of the two states!

Do you have the patience to wait till your mud settles and the waters become clear?

i have a canon powershot. the wide angle lens is s5 58mm .75x. so if i'm far away from the subject, i can zoom in. it creates this distortion effect on the sides making it blurry, like the old days when we had to use gauze for the same effect!

I agree on Ape Cave, amazing trip. May as well do both the lower and upper, lower is only about 15 minutes round trip, and then you can say you did both.

Great pics too!

Nice I see they haven't demo'd yet. The only thing about that place is all the buildings are the same. Def gets monotonous. Anybody get inside the physical plant? When we were there security was inside it so we never got a peek.

Oregon and Washington definitely does have some gems, though, such as Fort Warden in Port Townsend, Shipwreck Beach near Astoria, and a plethora of beautiful lighthouses and bridges along the coast. And these are just to name a few...
