The Traveler- Short Film < on 8/12/2012 10:57 PM >
I wanted to break up the monotony of cutting a feature length documentary, so I tried to edit a short film using some of the footage we got while exploring. I went back to my roots of horror with this one.
Since there was no single "characters" so to speak, I had to think outside the box and go abstract.
Let me know what you think.
Best enjoyed in HD!!! [last edit 8/12/2012 11:03 PM by CatAndTie - edited 1 times] "Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore." - Andre Gide

Very well done! I liked the camera work done when moving into the chair.
You're probably not looking for criticism, but...there were a few spelling errors that bothered me throughout the majority of the video. Towards the end however, it seemed like they were intentional and added a great effect to the mood. I would recommend using a different font for the journal entries, but overall, I enjoyed it.

Haha, yeah. They are intentional and get worse as the story goes to follow the story arc.
My girlfriend said almost everything exactly as you said, too, which I thought was pretty funny.
Thanks for watching and I'm fine with critiques... it's how we improve! "Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore." - Andre Gide

Awesome. Really, really awesome. I dig your stuff. "By the prick of my thumb something wicked this way comes..." "Under the cover of night, I travel across rooftops while you dream of adventure."

Very nice! Interesting work and the location is pretty much my all-time fave.
A bit of crit: The typos didn't particularly work for me either. I think it would have been cooler if it was narrated thru some low-fi digital voice recorder rather than text on the screen. It could have been much more emotive that way. Also, some sort of visual on the main character's broken device would have been nice, although admittedly hard to do.
But cool stuff! I always like seeing people try new and different things with their UE.

edit:typos.
Heh heh, edit on "typos".
Yeah, it was either a "video story" or I tossed around the idea of recording a voice over for it... wasn't sure what I wanted to do so I just stuck with the type.
I went with the typos to hopefully spark more of a "repeat value" on the video. I was hoping that once you know about these little details, you can go back and watch it multiple times to catch some more things. Seems like right now it's just annoying people, haha.
The broken device... I also thought about that but had no footage of anything that somebody on here wouldn't be like... "oh, his device is an old typewriter??" etc, etc, so I decided to leave it more open to the mind of the viewer.
If I can get the time and a small crew, I'd like to make an actual short narrative, which is why I'm hoping the film festival thing pans out. It would give me a great excuse to take some time away from the documentary and get some more of my creative juices flowing in other realms.
Thanks, guys!

I dont know, I think I preferred the text. I think a voice may have detracted from the silent and mysterious atmosphere. But then again, that would depend on the voice. Regardless, good job on the video. Carpe Noctem. Seize the night.
