Going to South America? Plenty to explore in Bolivia

This is my first post in the international forum (first post on the site actually) and I have been disillusioned by the lack of entries in the location database in South America. In my opinion, South America just beckons opportunities for adventure. Granted, the places to explore are often natural wonders or ancient ruins: not so much UE. However, on my trip to Bolivia with my father, we stopped at El Cemetario de los Trenes for an afternoon of exploring old rusting train remnants on the edge of a vast slat flat. The cemetery of trains is located on the edge of the Salar de Uyuni the worlds largest salt flat and mecca for (trick) photographers, in the town of Uyuni.

I'm inclined to agree with you; I think South America is the most-forgotten continent (other than Antarctica). The fact that there is very little information about it just means there's so much more to discover down there.

There's actually a pretty good scene in Brazil, especially Sao Paulo, and to a lesser extent in Argentina and Chile. There might be other places too. There's forums and everything, but as you might imagine they're all in Portuguese and Spanish. There is plenty of available information about lots of things in South America, just maybe not on English Language UE forums.

South America, especially Bolivia, has loads of of colonial-era boomtowns that were basically abandoned after whatever natural resource the Spanish or British were after dried up. A couple hundreds years of time has seen most everything of interest in these place stripped or demolished, but not completely. There are also a ton of abandoned and semi-abandoned mines in Bolivia, mostly around Potosi, although I certainly don't recommend checking them out much past the entrance - as you might imagine, mine safety and stabilization in 19th century Bolivia wasn't really the greatest.

There's also some pretty good draining - most of the infrastructure dates from the rapid urbanization which didn't happen until the mid-20th century, so you've generally got separated systems and big drains. However, you got to remember that it rains all the goddamn time in most of tropical and subtropical South American so the drains are almost always flooded to some extent. Sao Paulo drains, which are the only ones I've checked out, are always way gross, and I'd assume the same of Rio, Buenos Aires, and any other big city with tropical rainfall patterns. La Paz also has an absolutely disgusting underground river running through the middle of town.

You can do Buenos Aires metro (which is a neat Metro system just to ride around in, with old wooden cars on one line), but it's not much worth it unless you can get to the abandoned part of Linea E or the under-construction Linea H, both of which I couldn't figure out. Other Metro systems are much newer and probably tougher to do with less clearance.

The train cemetery outside Uyuni (or is it Ororo?) is also cool - do they still have the weird art thing that seems kind of like a strange desert mini-golf course by there?
