partial eclipses of 1964

Only 7 years ago, this place was inhabited by a woman who had a cardiology appointment in May. Wish I knew when she died, or why she bequeathed her (numerous) possessions to the cows.
1.

2. The place is trashed. Floors are layered with inches or feet of detritus. Cows have gotten into this room (there's poop in the mattress).

3. Birds nest in the kitchen. The thing on the cabinet door is a shopping list from 1921 that promised to give housewives "more time to devote to their other affairs"

4.

5. Jesus vs Pacman

6. This felt like a memorial

7.

8. Naked in 1935

9. You know it's an old book when x-rays are called Roentgenograms

10. ok, last one from the book...

11. All the papers, books, boxes of papers, piles of letters and postcards and a few pieces of male clothing are crowded into the room adjacent to this. And this room choked with a woman's lifetime collection of clothing. Wonder what they thought of each other's rooms?

12. Filthy, trashed inside. I'd still fix it up though!

13. The camper is woodstove-ready

14.

Wow, thanks Eschaton!

"Saved" as in brought them home or as in protected from the elements? I did the latter. Sure wish I knew the owner and could ask permission to have/buy that book (which was published in 1935 and is in perfect condition!)

If I ever

a) find the proper person to ask
b) get past that awkward "so, remember that old house you don't give a shit about? I've been rummaging through boxes...."

That book will belong right here!

The narrative make this photo set particularly enjoyable, especially the first three and the Roentgen comment (looks like an original of his ill-fated wife's hand, sans wedding ring).
I wonder if a local historical society would accept the text and 1921 advice poster (before they fall prey to the elements or less careful people)?

Awesome find man. I think its kinda sad that people like us who see the value in something like that old book would leave it to rot, or even worse be torn to shreds by some stupid kids or an animal. I'd agree with FNG, that book belongs somewhere where it'll be looked after and enjoyed by someone.

Thanks for the comments everyone...

Yeah, it kills me to think of that book getting ruined. Its saving grace is that it's protected from cows and weather. The other thing is, that book was in one pile out of many. Who knows what else is there! There are stacks of letters, magazines, etc, etc. Plus piles of things like bread bags. Looked like the folks who lived there ate Rainbow bread for 50 years and saved every bag.

Resurrecting this old thread because....

I had been dreaming of the day when I'd have time to go back to rummage through the boxes and read the books but that day has come and gone! Since the house was in such rough condition, its remodeling makes me think that a family member is fixing it up to preserve the memory of their dead. I get sentimental like that sometimes

My cousin bought a property with an old log home on it filled with vintage books. Makes me wish I could have grabbed them from her as I'm pretty sure they knocked down the house.

Wow, that is so incredibly awesome. One of my favorite parts of Urbex is finding the old remnants of someone's previous life. This is right up there with the kind of place I love to explore.
