You will come to a place where the streets are not marked. Some windows are lighted. But mostly they're darked. A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin! Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in? How much can you lose? How much can you win? |

| | | I try to take advantage of severe weather to gain access to places that are normally heavily guarded or watched. During Hurricane Irene I was stuck in DC for a month and we took advantage of the fact that security at most of the monuments was missing and that power was out to a lot of places. We managed to get photos of ourselves sitting on Lincolns lap at the Lincoln memorial and tried roasting marshmallows on JFK’s eternal flame (a tree tried to fall on us and we figured that was a good sign we might be pushing our luck). While at Lake Placid on vacation we snow shoed a very long ways, at night and in a horrible snow storm to ride a picnic table down the bobsled run. I once hiked, at night, three miles across a frozen lake in way below zero weather to take these photo.
It was in September, we saw their silhouettes fade away, outlined on the horizon against the rays of the setting sun. |
