| | | Greetings Av. This would be a massive undertaking - but have you ever concidered a DB Mapping feature? I'm not saying exact maps for each location, just more of a prov/ town mapping. So if someone wanted to go to an area but didn't know every tiny town name (with locations) that might be in the DB, they could see them on a rough map. Make sense? Then again, I might be lazy AND an idiot.

... Anyway, yes, this would be very cool but fairly difficult to do. Maybe someone with lots of time on their hands could make a static map with dots on it for locations or something? Just for shits and giggles...

| | | I personally think that being able to find a place is slightly requisite. If you hand all the information about a place to someone on a silver platter, they are no longer "exploring". It is then better described as "urban tourism". A lot of the fun comes from finding a place and figuring out how to get in and what the security is like, what equipment you'll bring, etc. A map applet would be kind of neat, but I guess it's not neccessary and would further add to the too-much-info-in-the-LDB issue.

| | | I believe that If you need a map to get to it, you shouldn't be exploring (with some exceptions). On another note, you could use MapQuest, and have the db generate a link using the mapquest link format, and just insert the info, or have the user do it themselves when they add a location

Yeah, that's what I thought you meant... then you guys jumped all over him. Sure, a map to the EXACT SPOT is not necessary, but a big map of the US and Canada with any town that's represented having a colored dot on it or something, different colors for more locations... it'd at least give you an idea of the concentration of urban explorers around the continent.

It's called google, and actually doing some measure of research, not just cherrypicking. And if you were going somewhere and actually intended to do some exploring, wouldn't you buy a map of the area regardless? [last edit 6/18/2004 6:30 PM by kowalski - edited 1 times]

| | | You know what - forget I even said anything. As for research, I know what I'm doing,in fact I do it for a living. (Industrial Stat Research for over 10 years now, that is) I just thought it would be a neat feature, since we ALL seem to know what we're doing anyways, right? What a group. Still a great site Av, reguardless. Keep up the good work.

| | | I'm sorry if it seems everyone is jumping on you and I hope you don't take it too personally. It's mainly because there have been some pretty heated debates in the past about how much information was too much in the LDB. A map of cities with LDB entries would be neat, and it's just stirring up some emotions and provoking a few opinions. Guys, let's try to attack the issue at hand rather than the messenger. It's not very welcoming when you propose an idea only to be run out of the village... By the way; welcome to the forums, Dek@y. I do hope you enjoy your stay here.

Issue at hand: Should Av spend his copious free time reinventing MapQuest, topozone, and terraserver, or integrating the LDB with such a portal? Attack on issue at hand: Duh! Hell no. Non-attack on the messenger: Bad idea, but well and clearly articulated, with a commendable demonstration of spelling and grammar. You get a gold star for starting a thread in "forum issues" that's not pissing, whining, or calling Av and the mods Nazis. Keep up the good work!

LOL "Mod Nazis"! What kind of riff-raff have been posting?!? Nevermind - I can guess. Someone lock this thing if people are just going to uproar about it. Lesson to those with so-called "ideas" - The first step to failure is trying!
