Anyone know any background on this place? We went out last night for a look and after driving around for over an hour on some curvy backgrounds in the middle of no where Rutherfordton county we eventually found what appeared to be an old school gym. We parked down the road a bit and started our journey at the gym. Nothing really interesting at first, so using the landmarks we found on google earth we found a power line trail and hiked through a short section of woods and came across some stone ruins of what we believe is the old school. Directly across from the ruins is a small cemetery with around 15 head stones. From the cemetery there is about 100yd walk through a well maintained field to the church. (I must add that there is no road or beaten path leading to this place.) The church its self is an older building with early 1900s architecture, all the windows had been sealed off with concrete blocks and newer restrooms built on the back side. The front is blocked by this huge iron gate that looks as if it belongs on the entrance of a bunker. The power meter wasn't running and the only electrical plug on the outside had a busted bulb in it. We didn't attempt to get in, just wondered around the area for a few hours. I have read stories about some sort or satanic cult that operates in the building and that people dressed in black cloaks chase people away, but I find this hard to believe. I have also heard that church is used only once a year, which is odd. The locals at a gas station on the way there said they had heard of the school but wasn't sure where it once stood and had no idea about the church. It just has a weird and had a slightly creepy vibe. We may go back and take pictures, but I first wanted to see if anyone had been before i go and get used in some sort of satanic sacrifice lol.

This is a screen shot from google earth, wtf is up with the shape of the building???

stories about some sort or satanic cult

Man, there's always a satanic cult. Always.
People get spooked out by an old building, find a dead rabbit and then BOOM. Satanic cults all up in your woods.

The church is not adandoned (sic). Services are held once a year. It is an old family church and is a methodist.

I know several churches like this that are only opened once a year for family and community reunions. They probably bricked it up to keep out teenagers looking for satanic sex orgies.

The building's shape is pretty traditional for old churches.

Just updating we solved what really happened out there years ago, the owners grandson called me and said years ago soem (sic) drunks left some dead animals all over the bridge as a prank, it started all the rumors that are around to this day.

While there's nothing to back up these posts as true, there's also no evidence for "satanic cults". I'd go with the most likely explanation.

I appreciate the information man, we will probably go back and take some shots of the school ruins and such. The remains are covered in ivy and would make for some awesome night shots. We will just keep a watch out for the cult members just in case....
