| | | Well, I stumbled upon this one by accident looking for an abandoned gold mine (that ended up not existing). The road was replaced by rt. 460 when it was constructed. Now parts of it are succumbing to nature but the old wood post-metal wire guard-rails are still intact on the curves. It is on national forest land adjacent to Pandapas Pond so it is legally accessible to anyone who wants to hike a few hundred yards to get there. It is nothing special, but I figured if any other VT students were out there and feeling restless, it might be worth checking out! To access it, I park on the gravel Forest Service road and hike down the power line right of way. it almost intersects with the road, which will be to your right. Location:
Sorry for the pic quality. It is the only one I have that won't break anonymity in some way. It was low light and all I had at the time was my (ex) girlfriend's camera:

| | | Wow I haven't even thought about this place in forever. I love the little reflectors on the guardrail posts:
I found another nearby abandoned road - one that's possible to drive on if you can find it. Didn't have a camera on me though, and haven't had a chance to go back.

| | | My father hates spotlighters (people who hunt deer at night from their cars), and he would paint up deer silhouettes on cardboard, prying loose those reflectors to use as the eyes. And then he would call the local game warden and tell them he was seeing people spotlighting in the area where he planted the decoys. Quite a few of them would get nailed that way...
