Lets go draining Friday night

Can do. None I know of that are super good, but "The Chinatown Drain" (in the db) is close to here. And I have one better than it within 5 miles.

I want Captain_Slow to go too. Since he can't go to the meetup, friday night draining should be fun, eh?

Sure! It will be loads of fun!

Since this is in a public forum, I was assuming you meant to invite all interested explorers.

The drains I have near me are good, but not like some of the super cool ones I've seen in the database.

I updated the map accuracy for the Rat Race Drain in the LDB http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=26035 just as I did for the Beaver Drain.

If youre on Lamar St anyway its a whole lot closer than China Town Drain and a Hell of a lot more interesting.

To keep from drawing attention to the location entrance park somewhere else walk to it then pop in quickly its in plain view of about 60000 motorists per day.

Also after dark is obviously better than 2:00PM

We are on Lamar street on Saturday.

On Friday night, we are going to end up in Richardson. We have a decent drain near here and Funtrawox, who discovered this drain, can lead us on Friday night.

Maybe we can hit both?

hah well its worth the trip and Ive never evevn seen it all I turned around at the point where the back breakers start but its cool nonetheless and easier to walk in than parts of Beaver but its hard to get a sense of distance traveled

(when you do Beaver you can tell youre going all the way then you hit the rail yard and realize how far back you have to walk)

a couple of members here did an extensive map using old Dallas maps and aerials and written descriptions of Mill Creek etc I think this drain possibly connects with the one Barry Kooda explored way back in the 1990s that starts east of downtown I just never found the connection

Tentative schedule:

Friday May 11th 10:30PM or 11:00PM:

A group of concerned citizens who share an interest in the flood control measures our local government is taking, will gather for an excursion to and an informal evaluation of one of our local drainage systems.

PM for additional information.

Saturday May 12th at 2:00PM:

Those interested in local history will meet at the historic Sears Roebuck building on Lamar. First, we will gather at Opening Bell and enjoy a delicious beverage and delightful conversation and the pleasant companionship of others who share our interest.

Then we are off to one of our cities most neglected historic spots: The Oakland Cemetery.

This event is free and open to all. It is of particular interest to those who enjoying seeing and/or creating photographic documentation of the natural deterration of man-made monuments and the unceasing encroachment of nature.

That Oakland cemetery is accepting donations for help to take care of it. Sent them a little bit myself, just to point out. I should go check it out sometime. Had to work last night and today.

It is run down and overgrown, making it very interesting. The Caretaker is a nice guy, but it is way too much for him to handle all by himself. They obviously need money.

Here is what I'm currently thinking about Friday Night Draining:

We have to start late - 11PM or so. Astro and I will be on the North side of Dallas.

Our options:

Rat Race - most interesting - too far and not the best neighborhood.

China Town - least interesting - closest - very safe

Catholic Bush (not in db - President George Bush near Coit) - better than China Town, almost as close as China Town and way more interesting - very safe

Uptown Underground - better than China Town, probably equal to Catholic Bush - not too far - moderately safe.

I am leaning toward Catholic Bush for Friday night. What is close to us matters, 'cause others will be waiting on us.

Maybe some of you can hit Rat Race on Saturday night ?? I can't make it, but Astro really wants to see it.
