| | | Many folks know that I've had a soft spot for LCS over the years, and it has been a favorite haunt of mine, even though the deterioration grows by leaps and bounds as the years go buy. Recently I've been fielding quite a few PM's from different folks inquiring about what is going on in the area as there is quite a bit of construction going on. Rumors have been abounding and I did get some solid facts earlier in the year, but today I got direct word from the city as to the goings on out there. So, here goes. At present all development of the Mixed Use Zoned Area (217C) has been put on indefinite hold. This includes the planned gas wells which it appeared were going to be done this year, as well as the new retail shopping center (with a possible Wal-Mart) and hotel directly across from Lone Star Park. It was found, as if they didn't know already, during the pre-construction evaluation phase that the flood plain needed major work to ensure proper drainage for the Trinity river as development was completed. So the city in conjunction with the US Army Corps of Engineers is doing a massive underground drainage project which will take another year or so to complete. Now I wasn't told this, but I have a feeling we may have a new drains area in DFW when they are done

| | | Elephants are very cool. When my daughter was about 5, she and I were riding an elephant. My daughter was carrying a small stick she had picked up from the ground. When she dropped the stick, the elephant stopped, picked up the stick with its trunk and handed it to us. (This happened at Lion Country Safari)

Nope, not much about the place on the web. Your memories of the place are better than mine. We went one time, it was about 105 degrees and almost all the animals were sleeping in the shade. We got to see very little of them. The one exception were somekinda water buffalo who would push their heads obnoxiously into our car wanting us to feed them and slobbering all over our upholstery.

LOL ... Not much to say any longer, the place is almost completely gone. Was cool for many years, but now it is just being plowed over for progress. The only thing of any real interest anymore is some of the cave structures and rock formations that are still standing. I think the only reason I get regular questions on it is the fact that I live less than five minutes away and I've been hiking and whatnot there for years.

I can't get my loser son and husband to trek through the tall grass and go anywhere with me. LCS was on my list, but I saw the trucks out there the last time we went to the horse races and pretty much scratched it off.

There is still plenty to see, just takes work to get to it. For those that want to go, I can lead an expedition sometime. Just gotta stalk up on Off this time of year.

Unfortunately, most of them floated down the river in the flood that closed the place, or at least one did. No, the Off is for the damn mosquitoes, they carry off the wild boar around there they are so vicious.
