Ah well, just looking to kill some time, more than anything. Maybe learn a few things.

Entry to the rooftop playground is free, if you look up enough to know it's there.

Don't go in drains with no airflow. You should feel a slight breeze tickling the hairs on your arm. If there is airflow, you're almost guaranteed good air quality. If your heart rate spikes, sit still. If it doesn't drop, come back another day. Racing pulse can indicate several things, one being bad air. If you get aheadache for no reason or start feeling drunk, leave. Those are bad signs. I suggest bringing a light, and having someone ready to call 911 for you if you get stuck.

Waders aren't needed. Wear decent shoes, boots, go barefoot. Look on the maps for streets with creeks coming out. Old topo maps can help. Read the cave clan's Approach.txt.

You don't need a super special light, but they can help. Even a minimag LED will work underwater longer than you will.

Thanks for the advice on the air, that's definitely something I'll be wary of. I'm thinking about having a look at it sometime next week, maybe Friday. I found an older map while poking around online, it seems fairly dated, but I can't see why they would go to all the trouble of ripping out the old storm drain system.

I'm pretty sure that all the circles along the river indicate outfalls, and it matches up when I search for them on google maps, so that should be my way in. What I'm not too certain of is the different colors on them map, there was no word of that on the website I got this from, so I'm going to guess that red is bad and green is good, blue is probably somewhere in between. Fair assumption?

go barefoot

horrible advice. Saskatoon has the highest number of new HIV cases in the entire country thanks to the citys growing problem with IV drug use. Wading around barefoot in a storm sewer would not be good for business....I wouldnt walk barefoot above ground, let alone in a storm drain. For the love of god, at least wear some shoes lol.

I'll be wearing shoes fo-sho, and, on the plus side, it's been raining hard for the last few days, and it seems like its going to do so for another week or so. That might create a few problems with standing water, but other than that, it should wash most things out of the waterways, so it might be cleaner anyways.

When it rains...

Drains rarely have more standing water than usual except when debris forms dams.

HIV isn't real a very sturdy virus, but some of the many hepatitis strains are. Bacteria and fungus pose a much greater threat. Even a small cut or scrape can become a life or limb threatening issue overnight.

Your security measures were inadequate.
How unfortunate for you.
