couple of questions

1) what are the criteria to post locations in the UEDB? are they supposed to be "urban" places? or just explorations of someplace? should there be structures? or is a natural environment enough?

2) do the pictures you post to a location have to be your own work? i was just looking at the single japan location and i'm not certain of course, but i'm getting the feeling that the creator of the location did not take those photos and simply got them from here http://www.ne.jp/asahi/saiga/yuji/menu/menu-e.html which seems to be the site of the guy who took them.

is something wrong here? does that guy know his pictures have been copied to the UER UEDB?

1) There's really no criteria to post things in the UEDB. If YOU consider it to be interesting, or even just a place you explored that you want to share, go right ahead. Despite what others may tell you, the UEDB is open to whatever you want to post, as long as you take the time to make the entry complete.

2) If you believe that the pictures were ripped from another site, perhaps you should PM Avatar-X. I'm not sure what the rules around here are about that sort of thing. On the other hand, the person who put up the location could be the guy who runs that site, it's possible.

something about doing that seems wrong to me,

personally i'm okay with a few historical shots in a location accompanying some photo's taken by UER member, but that particular location seems to be comprised entirely of photos from a website, and although there is a link to the site, the "album" was created/uploaded by someone form the forum.

now, maybe i'm wrong and this is all acceptable and encouraged, i'm unsure.

that's what i was hoping, but on review of the guy's posts, it doesn't seem like he is the same person who would write something like:

"I am poor at English. However, many mails arrive from the foreign country, and I am in trouble. I am very busy, so please do not expect a reply. Please send mail of intelligible English."

which comes from the (apparently) original site

I have looked through those galleries in the DB for that island and enjoyed them thoroughly. I don't think it's a big deal at all that someone posted pictures they found on the web of a really cool place. It would probably be nice to include a reference to the source or ask the proper photographer for permission, but it's by no means against any rules.

I see it as a way of showing people something a person has found out about that others would probably have never had the chance to see if the discoverer had waited for a chance to fly to Japan to photograph it.

To answer your questions in one easy to read post without sidetracking...

- If you explored it, post it. It doesn't matter if its not urban, if you think someone else might find it interesting and you've got some nice pictures, post it. Urban Exploration is really a loose term, it doesn't have to be urban.

- Putting pictures from another place is generally fine, as long as you put down who took it and where its from. Another good idea is to also get permission from the person or group, if possible.

If I remember right, the original poster admitted that these were taken from a book or otherwise. I don't think it came from a website, although it still wasn't original. It was admitted to from the start.
