Never locked, but trapped once. I was exploring an abandoned house that is right on a busy street. You have to wait a while until there is a break in traffic to get inside unseen. I was getting ready to leave, and saw out the front window that a car accident had taken place right outside. Both drivers were out of their cars, so I knew no one was hurt. Still, cop cars, firetruck, and a tow-truck were parked right outside for a good 2 hours. Started to get dark, but thankfully they eventually pulled away and I could leave.

I do delivery/courier work for a living, and often wind up at gated properties.

I've been locked inside buildings while doing deliveries, and locked in courtyards. The worst was when I was trying to find my way back out of a building, saw an exit (marked with an exit sign, even), walked out, and the gate clicked shut behind me. It was a gated courtyard... you had to have an access card to get back in the building. There was an emergency exit gate, but it had a padlock and chain on it, with spikes on the top. I spent a good 30 minutes trying to GTFO, including banging on windows.

I hate to pull the medical card, but I pulled it that night. I'm diabetic, and all of my beetus stuff was in my car. Turns out EMS/fire really don't like when people get locked up like that.

what's funny is I've never been locked in a place while exploring... but it's happened several times while working.

The trial.

The situation leading up to the trial is a complex one. Seeing that my trial has been moved again, I think it would be wise to wait until its conclusion before providing the details of my misfortune. I will say, even I have a hard time believing what is happening is really happening. The entire situation seems almost impossible... yet, here it is.

Sealed In
<Reply # 44 on 10/10/2017 2:32 PM >

This might be a stupid question, but I'm curious if anyone has gotten sealed in by people boarding/locking up a place. I'm hitting a new spot tomorrow that has an entrance, but I've been told it might not be open for long. It's unlikely it will happen when I'm there, but I always get paranoid about getting sealed in.

I actually have two exploring buddies this happened to. They were inside a very large, well known location that was constantly being broken into and then boarded back up again. After about two or three hours of texting amongst our group, waiting and trying to get creative, they finally decided to force their way out by breaking a window. If i remember correctly, they finally decided that one of us driving two hours to them was pointless, just as sitting there all night was just as pointless. Unfortunately, their timing sucked and the groundskeeper happened to seal the only entry/exit while they were several stories above, completely unaware. Unfortunately, it was either a forced exit or call the authorities for assistance (not happening).

I was locked inside of a location once, but only for a night. I could have forced my way out, but decided to hunker down, and sure enough, by dawn, the main exit was opened when I woke up and I was able to leave unnoticed.

Getting sealed in sounds a lot more horrifying than locked in. Was that choice of words intentional? If so, I have never been literally sealed in anywhere (thank god). I’ll admit, I do get a little nervous about this when exploring prisons and lockdown facilities though.

Thanks for your reply, I didn't have a specific meaning to be honest. I just thought being locked in is more typically associated with security or landlords and such, which are what I'm mainly worried about.

You took that whole experience pretty well. I remember you posting your fun thread asking if anyone else had been locked in and then drifting off to sleep without staying in contact with us. Freaked me out a little.

If you're simply locked in a building you can usually break out.
In a concrete secured liquor storage warehouse getting lock in was a real concern; Linnevilla.
They are easy by design to lock down.

Getting trapped in a Atlas F missile site was a real concern; no cell coverage.
It could be weeks or longer until someone came...
Secure sites by design such as those above with only one entrance/exit can be dangerous...

I do remember and I felt bad about falling asleep and not responding. Did I ever mentioned to anyone on here that I’m narcoleptic? It sounds like the start of a bad joke, but I’m totally serious. The upside to that is I can pretty much guaranteed sleep anytime anywhere anyhow. This has some downsides too, such as miscalculating how quickly I would fall asleep alone in an abandoned toilet factory. I thought I’d be online for an hour or so, but evidently it was bedtime, lol.

This. This scares the holy living shit out of me. As in, one of my top three “most unimaginably terrifying way to die,” kind of way.

Honestly, chances are pretty slim you’ll get locked in and in most cases you can find a secondary way out. A good habit to get into is closing up your POE behind you so that it doesn’t appear disturbed. This will also keep other curious wanderers, taggers, and vandals out (for a moment anyways). The last thing you want to is leave your POE wide open or totally different than when you found it. If I’m able, I’ll even make my Poe more challenging to find than when I found it. If course, this last part about hiding your POE won’t apply to every situation, but there’s usually something you can do to cover your tracks somewhat.

I've since heard some more details. If it is ongoing she should probably not talk about it on UER, in case there are snitches around.

Or bots. According to the UER user metrics, at least half the "people" browsing UER at any given time are bots. I have absolutely zero doubts that at least a few of those are run by the US government.

That could make a pretty cool movie. UrbExer exploring alone in an abandoned prison thinks it funny to close cell door behind him... only to find a few selfies later he can't get the door open.

Hmmmmm.

I have a buddy of mine that works for Kansas Bureau of Investigation that asked me if I was on this board. 4Valhal is an old gamertag of mine as well and he recognized it. He was looking for information on some stuff in Kansas and I guess his team frequents this forum.

Pressing him for information led to no results, sadly.

One time in Japan I went into this abandoned re-enactment of buddhist hell inside of a big dark cave. There was a locked metal gate blocking the entrance to the cave, so I decided to squeeze myself half into this little gutter thing under the gate and somehow drag myself under the gate. It was pretty terrifying since I almost got stuck under the gate and I was up on a mountain in the middle of nowhere, where nobody would ever find me. I somehow managed to pull myself into the cave but I was sure I wouldn't be able to squeeze myself through there again on the way back.

The abandoned buddhist hell was one of the freakiest/coolest things I had ever seen exploring, so it was worth risking entrapment in the end. I did end up just crawling out the way I came to escape hell in the end.

I recently went to a former hospital where there is almost everything and the abandonment is fairly recent. It is a residence on several floors. When going up to the first floor, we had to go through a door. I was with 3 friends, so we were 4 in total. We opened and passed through the door to get to the first floor, but to the second floor. I go first and my friends follow me, but nobody holds the door. So, we stayed locked. It was a retirement residence for semi-autonomous people. This system was probably designed to prevent residents from leaving the residence without permission. We were able to go down through a door that was not locked, but we left not long after because there was still a person in the group who panicked.
