That could have ended much worse than it did. Like NASCAR or hate it, danger is all over those tracks. I haven't been much into NASCAR since the mid 90's (back when it was still entertaining to watch since they let the drivers do damn near what they wanted) and stop completely when Dale died. I will catch one now and again, but it has gotten too.................sterile I think is the word.

well said. right on the money. my father is a gearhead from the 60's and 70's when it was the church of NASCAR or the church of NHRA... he stopped watching when Toyota was allowed to run the Camry.
personally, i just think there are so many other more exciting modes of motorsport out there that NASCAR just seems, as Dave said, sterile, laughable, almost a parody of auto racing.
Honestly, I would rather spend my money at the local dirt track now than go to a NASCAR race. There is actual real balls to the walls racing at the local dirt track and the cost is soooooo much cheaper. For what a 4 day race weekend would cost you with all the extras at Daytona, you could buy and race a dirt track car for a season. And that makes all the difference to me.
I agree with you guys 100% on NASCAR but I do have to hand it for NASCAR that requires every track to have a pretty high standard in fire rescue services on hand specialized in motorsports rescue. This has lead to actually most tracks having their own private fire/rescue company like airports and as you can see here, they got the fire out quick and made sure the driver was safe.
i know what you guys mean, up here we have had some dirt knockout races 8 cars on the track, have to do 10 laps, they dont start counting laps till 4 cars are knocked out of the race, thats exciting!

ever watch the Australian touring cars? It's part NASCAR, part BTCC, part WTCC, part demolition derby and part wrestling match. If you think Ford and Chevy guys get rowdy towards each other... they've got nothing on the Holden/Ford rivalry!
All I can say about that crash, and I was there to see it with my own eyes, was DAMN. There was a lot going on last night.
I do find it a shame that you just can't see the skill that is found all over NASCAR. It's mostly because of the major corporate sponsorships that gloss over all of the tech in order to sell more gizmos.
