Deconstructing a college dorm

I have been volunteering my time at the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and was able to take part in an interesting experience I will share here.

This past summer (2011) I got to help salvage useable items out of an old dormitory building on the Missouri State University campus here in Springfield Mo.
MSU was allowing the Habitat ReStore to go in and salvage useable items from the dorms, which would then be sold at the ReStore to benefit local needy families.

In doing this, I had all access to everywhere in the dorm, but unfortunately had no camera! I helped rip out cabinets, doors, light fixtures, furniture, and anything else that could be re used. I also got to smash a few walls that were in my way!

Let me say now that I hate vandals, but since this place was going to be demo'd in a week or less, there was no harm in a little fun!
One of the funniest things i saw was a room where the college students took almost every piece of furniture and stuck it into the wall legs first! there was a whole couch with it's legs jammed into the wall, two feet off the ground!
there was also a lot of graffiti, but it wasn't anything profane, just stuff like "bye building, I had fun here" and "ted was here" that sorta stuff. I'd guess the staff let the students do this since the place was being demo'd.

I even practiced kicking in doors, as one was locked, and the maintenance guy with the keys was on the other side of the campus! (of course I had permission!)

All in all, I'd wished I had my camera, as it was a worthy UE adventure, and the building is now history!
