Rolling Stones icon Mick Jagger has recently been name-dropped in a whole lot of song lyrics. You've got "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera, and of course "Swagger Jagger" by Cher Lloyd.
You can also catch mentions in "The Time" by Black Eyed Peas ("All these girls, they like my swagger, they callin' me Mick Jagger"), "Heart & Soul" by the Jonas Brothers ("That won't matter if you can swagger like old Mick Jagger"). T.I.'s "Swagger Like Us" features guest artist Kanye West proclaiming, "My swagger is Mick Jagger."
Are you noticing a theme?
Yep. Jagger rhymes with swagger, and some music experts tell the Ottawa Citizen that's the major reason he's been cropping up in more lyrics lately. "For the most part, I strongly believe (it's because) the word swagger has been so overused," says Radio 3 host Lana Gay. "And who has a very memorable swagger and a name that rhymes with the word?"
Pop culture scholar John Alberti says that the current name-drop trend betrays a "lyrical laziness," but that Jagger remains an icon for a youth revolution regardless. "He's the avatar of being a badass," Alberti says.
“You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons.”
Why do you even care what appears in a Ke$ha song? She could rhyme with orange and I wouldn't give a shit. She should be dead from a STD any day now anyway.
“We are not going to have the kind of cooperation we need if everyone insists on their own narrow version of reality. … the great divide in the world today … is between people who have the courage to listen and those who are convinced that they already know it all.”

some people care about what is being done to society... and it makes perfect sense to be bothered by seeing the dumbing down of society happening right before your eyes...

You read to the 3rd line then stopped. It wasn't about Kesha.
Having a young teenage daughter keeps me exposed to pop songs and singing along to...er I mean listening to them on a daily basis.

You got me. I saw Kesha and I was done. I guess I'm lucky, though. My oldest son's favorite band is Minus the Bear, and my youngest (he's 14) likes the Black Keys.

So you think society was smarter back in the day? I grew up in the '70s; pop music was pretty fuckin' stupid back then, too. Example:
“We are not going to have the kind of cooperation we need if everyone insists on their own narrow version of reality. … the great divide in the world today … is between people who have the courage to listen and those who are convinced that they already know it all.”

Tacky pop songs aside, has anyone else noticed that during the 1960s and 70s there were quite a few songs written about jailbait? Come to think of it, Bruce Springsteen has a number of songs where he talks about 'little girls'.
