Hi DigiLily, glad to see you have someone to explore with. It is always good to know someone has your back. Easiest way to start learning is by reading the rookie forums and also taking a look at the tutorials. Best of luck to you and be safe.

Hello, I'm a rookie to this site as well as internet-group-based exploration. Yet, in my search for additional sites to explore . . . I found you all. I've been to quite a few places and as of late, I've been exploring a great deal of Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. Thus far, my most fun find has been the Mushroom Mines in Kentucky wherein two full days barely scratched the surface of the mine, turned mushroom farm, turned absconded government project. The trip included a run-in some lively locals. All around, one hell of a good time. Albeit, most trips out to the abandoned, are in fact, abandoned. Still, always an adventure and seeking more. Feel free to contact me if you're in the region.

Photos from various sites I've visited.

Welcome to UER. Glad to see you are off to a great start. Definitely keep posting your pictures, it's a way to build your credibility on here. If you ever have any questions always make sure to read the rookie forums or even post there if you don't see your question. Everyone here will give you some insightful info so be positive, share your stories and you'll be good.

Don't forget to read the FAQ and make sure you read the rules.

Hello everyone!

My name is Conor and I'm from San Diego, California. I'm just recently getting back into UE. I stopped a year or so ago as most of my time was taken up by school. I chose to get into UE as some of my favorite things are exploring, photography, mysteries, and the thrill of being somewhere unknown to most. I discovered this forum a couple years ago but didn't get too into it as I took a hiatus from UE soon after. Aside from UE, my hobbies include SCUBA diving and coding. I'd love to incorporate SCUBA into my UE but at my current skill level it's just asking for disaster, but I will consider it once I get my divemaster certification.

Anyways, I'm glad to have access to such the incredible resource that is this community and I hope to contribute plenty to you guys!

Hello! I am a fairly new member here despite my account being registered a month ago. First thing you all might want to know about me is that i like helping others when i can (i highly recommend reading the whole rookie forum, very useful information FAQ for all the newer members like me). I live in a fairly sized town in Alabama that actually has quite a few abandoned buildings (which i have not visited yet). I plan on starting a small group of urban explorers with my best friend and maybe a member from UER. EDIT: If anyone is in Alabama and is interested hit us up.

I don't live in Alabama but I've been through on 2-3 trips to go to a few spots. Maybe I'll bump into yall and welcome to UER.

Hi everybody! My name is Beck and I'm from around Pittsburgh PA. I currently go to school about two hours north of that though. I've loved finding and exploring abandoned places since I was a kid and decided to get into photography recently so I've just been bringing my camera along with me. I'm always down to explore and am always up to meet new people. I'm excited to become part of this awesome community!

Hello! I'll be blunt. I am probably older than most people on this forum and probably also would be voted "Most likely to be the law enforcement officer trying to infiltrate the community" if you put me in a lineup with other members, due both to my age and my obvious level of physical unfitness. (Well, most cops are in much better shape than me, actually. But I digress.)

Be that as it may . . . I am in the Baltimore area . . . I have done zero exploring, but I love the photography and would like to give exploring a try, if some friendly local person who isn't too overwhelmed by my being double his/her age would introduce me to the world of all this. Lunch would be on me.

For many years I have been intrigued by what I called "industrial decay". Mostly I noticed old buildings, old factories with half the windows busted out, that sort of thing, while driving from one place to another. They have always held a strange fascination for me. Little did I know that there was a subculture of people exploring them -- and taking pictures. Now that I know it, I'd like to get involved. So please, if you're local to Baltimore, I'd like to hear from you.

Hi everyone! My name is Hayden I'm from a small town in Southwestern Ontario. I started urban exploring about 3-4 years ago when I drove by an abandoned farm house, noticed there were no houses around and thought it would be cool to check it out. A couple days later I returned with my camera at night to take some photos and I have been hooked ever since.

I've mostly just gone to publicized locations to practice my photography but, when time permits I like to travel back roads looking for forgotten places and have found a few cool places. I also like exploring old cemeteries and railways as well. Looking forward to being a part of this community!

Hey everybody, I'm from the DFW area in Texas. I've had an interest in urbex for a while now but I haven't had a chance to act on it much until recently due to tight schedules. I mostly stick to abandoned buildings in active urban areas, but fortunately I haven't had any run-ins with anyone besides police.

I do some rural explores as well, but I generally don't find them as interesting (with the exception of a house that looks like its inhabitants just got up and left). I have also cut back on rural explores since I was shot at while trying to explore a shack in the woods a few years back.

My first explore was an abandoned police station/jail in my town that has since been renovated and repurposed. I wasn't old enough to have a driver's license at the time so my mom dropped my friend and I off to explore. To date, it was one of my more interesting explores. I have since come across a multitude of bum homes in unlikely places.

I'm really excited to become a part of this community! My standard 3 day wait for new members was killing me. I wanted to contribute and get to know y'all right away!

Been lurking for a bit and I think its about time I get to become active in this community.

I've been exploring in my city (Toledo, Ohio) for about two months with 2 trusted friends, and on some other not so fun times a group of highschoolers. (two of which wore bright orange and yellow that night) So far I've found around 40 locations over many hours on google maps, 13 of which we've explored, and about 5 ended up not being abandoned. (whoops) My group expected to run into somebody by now; be they vagrants, vandals or even fellow explorers but not a soul so far which seems odd to us, is this usually the case or have we got "lucky"?

Welcome. I see you've already posted some photos, that's a great way to stay active in the community. Toledo is in a nice spot, you are right on the border of Michigan. Look forward to seeing more from you.

Hello everyone, I’ve been living in Northern Virginia for a while now and got an interest in UEX. I’ve been watch exploring with Josh on YouTube, and I’ve gained a huge interest in abandoned places. I’ve done a lot of research of the area and my friends and I plan to explore a bunch of places. Some including an abandoned house in the woods (found by me on Google Maps) and the Glendale Hospital. Just a heads up, we are not interested in vandalizing the places, and I don’t understand people who do. In my opinion, I think that is just wrong and stupid. I haven’t done any explorations yet, but I’ll definitely post any pictures I get. I look forward to getting active in the community and I hope I can meet some of you guys. If you live near the Northern Virginia area, and please hit me up.

Happy exploring,

Rookie Explorer

Welcome to UER. I bet virginia is beautiful, should be some nice stuff to explore up there. I would say to not expect the same kind of experience that you would get from exploring with Josh, he has money and he knows how to make things look good. That's not to say exploring isn't fun. Just be safe when it comes to exploring. Make sure you read the rules and FAQ as well, it's not really a rule, but giving out the name of a location to the public can be frowned upon. Other than that I look forward to hearing from you on the forums.

Be safe and explore.

Hey all-

I go by METRo and I currently am based in New Orleans, though I grew up outside of D.C. I have been exploring abandoned places for about 10 years and started teaching myself photography about 9 years ago...I don't consider myself a great photographer (only took a week of photography class in high school) but I try my best to capture what I see.

I loved abandoned places so much I decided to make it my career. Got a masters degree and now I work as a historic preservationist and spend a lot of time advocating for the restoration or preservation of historic buildings, many of them abandoned. Last year I spent some time in Havana, Cuba and this year I have been to Chicago and Paris. I don't trespass as much as I used to (since I kinda have a job I want to keep and not get into trouble) so most of my photos are going to be from the past.

Looking forward to sharing some of my work with you guys!

That is awesome that you get to do what you love, especially the traveling. There are a lot of great places that you can view without trespassing and there are many ways to be an urban explorer. Cant wait to see what you'll share with us.
