Went on a little above ground explore the other day. I was looking for the concrete structure covered in graffiti, but it was a really nice hike as well. A hidden little forested area called Mystic Vale just outside of UVic, it is right in the middle of the city, but it is a very quiet, peaceful area and not too many people seem to know about it! 1. 1.

Six years haven't been kind to Walden since I was last there. Every window smashed, the kitchen trashed, office trashed even harder. A thick carpet of rodent droppings on every surface. Still some novelties to be found, but for the most part the good stuff is long since stolen or destroyed.
Definitely sad to see, considering how pristine the place was a decade ago. Lots of fresh foot traffic signs on the trail in and out, which is now a defined and obvious trail, popular place for the locals now I guess.

That's too bad, I've always found that place fascinating. Haven't had a chance to visit yet...sounding less and less worth it.

I was under the impression that the Walden property, at least at the base of the mountain, had full time security, is that not the case anymore? Seems unusual that a location outside of the Lower Mainland would descend so quickly with security on-site. In other news, I haven't been very active on the boards lately but I have been getting around, here are some of my favorites from the last few months. The one of the TV jumps right out of the screen. Nice find. Were you feeling the damage was more scrappers or weather?

Definitely a combination of both, close enough to Calgary that it's definitely within the blast radius of scrappers and vandals. But most of the abandoned rural homesteads I've been to in Alberta have clearly taken a massive beating from prairie winds, it's actually one of my favorite things to photograph in Alberta, so many of the homes and barns have that characteristic gangsta lean. 20170909_193617_HDR by EPOCH 6, on Flickr Made it up to Walden North for the first time last weekend and took my time putting together a full set of photos. Will share the experience in a dedicated thread when I find some time to put it all together.

Nice shots. If that's where I think it is, that spot has been hosting a lot of squatters & scrappers recently. Can't believe the shit they've torn apart there.

Yeah two of my friends said they heard something when they were walking back to the cars and they assumed they were squatters so they dipped quick. Also we noticed a lot of abandoned bikes, backpacks and crates of clothes on the path down there. I didn't actually see anybody down there other than us though.

Looking forward to it my dude. That angle is wicked. I've only been to mountainous part of Alberta. The wind picks up pretty good near Frank's slide though. Oh also anywhere near the tunnels past Hope, BC.

This looks like an interesting location (although I am partial to places that potentially double as astrophotography sites as well!). I wouldn't mind seeing more photos of it ... Perhaps even a new thread?
