FYI for the Old University Hospital

I have a pretty good vantage point of the buildings between 10th and 11th on Colorado and have noticed an increase in the police presence over the last week. Since I sit on my balcony alot, it's a pretty easy location to monitor, especially the parking garage on 11th and Colorado, the School of Dentistry behind it, and the Childhood Diabetes unit (attached to the parking garage).

Last week I noticed a pretty big hole in the chain link fence by the garage, and based on the increased CU and Denver police presence over the last week, I wasn't the only one to notice it. Last weekend, multiple times, police officers had spotlights on examining the alleyway between the garage and the Dentistry School. The hole has since been fixed, but the police presence is still rather high.

If someone on this board is who cut the hole, it seriously isn't necessary. There are plenty of non destructive ways into that group of buildings that don't leave evidence like a cut fence.

To any who may be poking around the facility, I would highly recommend staying away from the portion of the campus between 10th and 11th on Colorado. There is still plenty of other spaces to check out, but I would let that area calm down a bit first.

Finally, just so everyone is aware, while 99% of the University hospital is closed, there is still a small outpatient dialysis unit open in a red brick building on 11th between Ash and Albion. It is easy to notice since it's the only location with lights still on in the entire campus. There are people there 24 hours a day.

This one little location is why CU police are mainly still around. The VA hospital behind University is still very much active (and they have their own federal police). Once the new VA is finished at Colfax and I-225 and the new tower is finished for University, then the VA and University Hospitals will be completely shut down (and way less police presence). At that point it is supposed to get handed off to a developer who will basically turn it into another Belmar type of shopping/living location.

Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of checking it out, but I might wait a few months or so.

If there are non destructive ways to get in, I sure as hell couldn't find it. We spent over an hour (which is the longest I've ever stayed at one location trying to get in) poking around, I even found that fence repair. That place is Ft Knox... they even grease the damned fence poles! It was my first real defeat trying to get in. Gave up and went to the orphanage... that was a cool place to watch the sunset

I've got a way scouted to get in to that place. Its kind of obscure and I'm not sure if it leads to the main buildings. I've been meaning to check it out sometime soon, but haven't gotten around to it.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've been inside before the chainlink fence was erected. I used to enjoy just hanging around outside because I am an amature traceur and the campus was a great place to jam, then they put up a giant perimeter fence and now I am sadface.jpg. Back in the day they didn't even bother locking the windows, they still might. I wouldn't know, security gets nervous when I stray from the bus stop a little.

They've had plans to develop it into some sort of retail hell for a long time now, I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and estimate it's gonna be even longer before they ever do anything.

I can certainly verify what my apparent neighbor LizBorden has said. I live very nearby too, and have noticed the increase. I am semi-inclined to assume the homeless are involved as about 6 days ago I saw police cars on the sidewalk on 8th Ave, and looked like they were about to cuff and stuff some homeless guys back aways on the property.

Several months ago i got my head in the building by moving an obstacle, by which I do NOT mean breaking a window, and the things I changed in an effort to enter were redone massively the next day.

And for those who go by the gospel of "pre dawn", I have noticed that the grounds are maintained by a small crew right at dawn.

This is sad, because I know for an old work related fact that this hosp has a SPECTACULAR morgue.

In other nearby news, the very nearby school which was sold to Jewish Hosp seems to have large crews on the ground for whatever they are gonna do for the changeover. As in: maybe it's the best or WORST time for that place.

As for UNI,....I am beginning to think the only true and good way is to bring Tim Tebow with you.

Regarding that school, they're planning on tearing it down ASAP but it's completely gutted. I did a little asking around with some DPS friends before Tallulah came. Unfortunately I didn't do my research on the hospital and it was an epic fail

Gove Middle School? I noticed they finally put a sign over it. Most of the hospital is gutted now too, and it was still pretty rad. I bet Gove is awesome too, I still wanna check it out before it's gone.

Gove is pretty much gutted. When I was working for DPS we went in a few times as part of our sort of "community service" hours to help pull things.

True Demo is in progress at Gove as of yesterday. I don't know whether or not it's guarded at night, but there's holes a popping everywhere out back. last chance, though it's said not to have been worth it before.

Any news on University Hospital? I've driven by a few times and seen some security off and on.

Drive by every time I get a chance. Seen the same thing, seems that the power plant is the newest Cop jerk off spot...

St.Anthonys Central is also vacant now and just as tasty if not more so...

Yeah, but there's lights on inside Saint Anthony's Central. Or, at least that's what I've seen.

I live in the neighborhood too and there are always construction workers in the abandoned parts. Also tons of police presence, not a very motivating factor to go try, but its so tempting being so close. I just don't think Jail is worth it. Keep us posted if anyone gets in!

Well crap. Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep my eyes open for other places. Stupid security is taking all my fun away. At least I got in to Gates while I had the chance.
