Ok, figured I would put this here. I am starting training tomorrow to sell cars. Its gonna be a new career for me. I fucking love being a driver, but since my accident, well I can't do it like I could. I'm a damned good driver. I really am. But anyway I'm gonna become that dreaded person, a car salesman. But with a twist, I actually know a little about cars. So figured I would put this here. Any advice or fuck you's should go below. Thanks.

The original article is linked on that page. Quite the interesting read.

wait for people to come to you. don't be one of those salesman that humps your leg as soon as you get out of the car.
And don't lie to people... if you don't know something, admit it and reassure them that you can find the answer.

Sam, I wouldn't do it any other way. I know what annoys me on a lot. I don't plan to be "that guy"

And if you have some weird add on fee on the sticker (market adjustment charge comes to mind) don't bullshit around it.

I was the wingman for one of my friends who actually was buying a Caravan (since his wife is having TRIPLETS) and one of the Dodge dealers here slapped on a "$2000 MARKET ADJUSTMENT" fee on the sticker. Now, the dealer about 10 miles away on the other side of Portland didn't have such a line item. The salesmen tried to steer around the reason why even we told him the other dealer doesn't have it.

reminds me of when i was shopping for my Fit and the guy at the place i didnt buy it at was like o yeah its got a 2.4l engine, and proceeded to point at the label where it said 1.5L. if it had a 2.4L i wouldve bought it right there. but alass. he thought i was some silly white boy...

then he tried to convince me how paddles were the new best thing

Know your cars....it's that simple! And I don't mean it's got 286hp and 302ft lbs of torque, the average buyer gives a rats ass about that. Know that stuff if you're selling a pick up truck to a construction dude.

If you're selling a mini-van to a mom, know about the handy flip down seats and how easy they are to use, know about the hidden storage compartments, the one touch buttons for this and that...

Sell the features of the stereo and the sweet rims to the teenage punk

yOu get the idea

**

My uncle has been a car salesman for over 40 years. In the last decade he moved into Audi & Mercedes. Let me tell ya man, he knows every button, switch, feature, function inside and out on those cars and he even knows what BMW & Lexus have and don't ahve in their comparable cars. Once he's explained stuff, it's so clear what you're buying now it's really up to allowing the car to sell itself

Good luck man

The guy that sold us our RDX got my wife when he started talked about Acura's body structure and how safe it is (we have two kids). He got me when he said turbocharger. lol. So yeah, know your audience.

I'm not sure any thread in here stays on topic.

And no, definitely not underpowered. 230 horses and a sub 7 second 0-60... I guess Acura/Honda's 3.5 V6 would also make sense, but I personally like the the turbo 4. It doesn't feel as gutsy as an X3 (also drove one of them) but never feels underpowered.

ill take that as a delightful compliment as i cannot tell emotion yet over the internet

if anyone knows anything about the fit. it has insane potential and i think honda is holding back for some reason.

also, i noticed, good salesmen make the car seem like the shit. like its so badass if u dont buy it ppl will shun you as soon as you leave the dealer. learn psychology (took it in highschool) youll learn alot about keywords and gestures that can actually manipulate ppl (in a good way of course )

I think what bugs me about the Fit is its almost as big as a late 80's Accord. Dammit, what happened to a true sub-compact?
