The Human Subconscious

The human subconscious is a truly amazing thing, but it also pisses me off to no end. It sometimes seems like it's there to deceive us into various things.

For example, let's take cursing and the word "fuck". Used by itself, "fuck", as everyone knows, refers to having sex, which is normally taboo to talk about in public. When insulting someone, if you call them a "fucking idiot", for example, it's meant to heighten the emotional intensity of the insult by the following means:

1. Person 1 calls Person 2 a fucking lardass.
2. Person 2's subconscious associates the term "fucking" with something taboo, enabling Person 2 to become more shocked in relation to the insult.
3. It's super effective!

Anyone else see the problem here? The subconscious causes the emotional level of the conversation to go up, even though it's not the victim's fault.

For another example, let's look at the color blue in relation to packaging and products. Blue is subconsciously associated with the ocean and the sky, which are two things which will supposedly be there forever, and which we can depend on, according to our subconscious.

For example...

...isn't Ford trying to convince us to buy their products because we can depend on them?

And doesn't Wal-Mart always portray themselves as a dependable company?

We associate things like this with emotions because of the subconscious. It seems to me sometimes like it's a tool implemented into our brain to fool us into false assumptions and convince us into buying stuff. It's amazing, sure, but the subconscious is some freaky shit.

Sorry if this was an exercise in vain, I just wanted to vent...

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

A serifed "A" with two dots hovering above the left side. What's subliminal about that.

My job has tainted me. I immediately saw two people doing doggie style then later thought, "oh hey that kinda looks like an 'A' with two dots too"

I see what you did there Mandi

Outstanding.

This 'subconscious/colour theory' discussion is lacking in serious foundation.
