Actually I thought it was the McDonalds in Polo Park. I saw some really sketchy people in there whenever I went into that place.

Wait a second... you may also be right on a techicality!

As of last weekend, this is what our favourite old school looked like:

1 - Theatre room

2 - Demolished part of the school

3 - This used to be a stairwell... now it's filled to the top with cinderblocks:

4

5 - This is from the south part of the school, which is still somewhat intact:

6 - A hallway to outside

7 - Pile of dirt in the basement.. they pushed a big mountain of dirt so the bobcat could get to the upper floors

8 - The old boilers

9 - The basement hallway

10 - The bobcat that's taken apart most of the school

11 - All that's left of the old movie set (plus some dangling network cables):

A couple shots from the roof of the Pit o' Death building, taken while me and 1ajs were showing around a friend from Regina!

I used a different program than usual to edit this set - I worked with the 'Raw' images instead of the 'Jpg' - let me know what you think!

Also, I got a Flickr Pro account, so if you click on any of those pictures you can get the biiiiiig original size now. woo!

1 - Smokestack 1

2 - Smokestack 2

3 - I *love* how the colours on this one turned out:

And my last set for today! This is the old train bridge by polo park. Last Sunday I was riding by there and thought I could get some neat shots. Not really urbex (except for the one where I climbed onto the bridge), but kinda cool nevertheless.

Like the last set, I worked directly with the raw images this time. Let me know what you think! And you can click on them and get the HUGE original version, and see all the shitty little edits I did that you don't see when they're small.

I updated a bunch of locations in the uedb today, and added a few that were missing (pit of death, papermill, curling club, etc).

I also marked a few as demolished or re-purposed that are no longer abandoned, but there's a lot that I don't know. Does somebody who knows the city better than me wanna go through the buildings and mark the demoed buildings as such?

I added pictures/cleaned up the descriptions, as well.

Our section of the DB needs some love.

I did all that about a year ago, and look how much has changed already. Mind you, I didn't exactly have help at the time as there was a lot of drama around.
Glad you fixed er up again, I don't use the DB because of how useless it is but it's nice to update the status of our favs

the missing locations, ftr, were missing because they were pretty dangerous to get into and we didn't want a noob getting access to the db to go trolololing and fall in the pit of death or through the second story entrance of the paper place. Was also to try and cut down on arson and such so people looking for a place to torch couldn't find it through the site. standard 'why it wasn't listed' crap.

Makes sense! The difficulty of PoD is low right now, and paper place I'm not aware of any way in (locked up tight). Plus, I didn't put enough infos to find the place (unless somebody was super clever).

I'm happy there isn't much drama these days. There's only a couple active 'peggers running around.

I enjoy it when things are organized/complete.

There is probably nothing left inside but some lonely chairs but who knows, it could still make for an interesting exploration in the near future. Unfortunately the article does not discuss what is going to happen to the facility this renovation is supposed to replace.

Hello everyone! I'm new to the boards, so this is my official introduction. I've been fascinated with the beauty in decay for as long as I can remember, but it's only relatively recently that I discovered there's a name for that sort of thing, and that it's a pretty substantial subculture. (much to my delight!)

I also love photography, and have been following other folk's UE work for a long time. In July I was at a party in the country and someone mentioned they knew of an abandoned brick factory nearby. So the next morning, nursing hangovers and dressed completely inappropriately, me and some friends went to check it out. I'll leave the name out, since a quick google search will reveal its exact location. You guys probably already know where it is anyway.

The people I was with were nervous about getting caught and wanted to leave almost as soon as we got there, so I was very rushed and didn't have nearly enough time to do a proper photo shoot, and botched a lot of the photos I did manage to take. (I tried to convince them that the "no trespassing sign" on the fence we climbed over was the politest I'd ever seen, but it didn't seem to make a difference.) XP

The ----- brickyard was opened in 1900 and is still owned by the family that built it. Apparently they have plans to restore it and turn it into an interpretive center. They still live nearby in a very old house built of bricks from the factory. Interesting factoid - the huge chimney was struck by lightning only two weeks after it was first built.

My favourite thing about abandoned structures is the way nature reclaims the space. This place was no exception. There were TREES growing out of the dome which is the giant walk-in kiln. There were no roots visible on the inside, so I guess they're all woven into the brickwork. Very cool.

On the way back we stopped at an old abandoned farmhouse, but again didn't really have time to explore, since we needed to get back to the city. I'm definitely going to make a return trip to the brickyard in the near future. It was totally worth the obscene hole I made in my pants climbing over that silly fence. Next time I'll be wearing jeans!

This was my first and only hands-on experience with UE, but I’m hooked. I read through the entire Winnipeg thread, (skipping over the drama) and drooled over all your amazing finds. I figured out a few locations from your cryptic descriptions, but have yet to visit any. I'm very sad about the Todd and the Book of Pure Evil school being demolished. I really wanted to see it before they started.

Anyway, here are a few pictures from the brick factory and the old house...

*waits patiently while they upload*

yay, finally!

Hey CityFox, welcome! Looking forward to seeing the pictures!

I don't know any rural locations, so it'll be a new one for me. I'd love to check it out, though!

I remember the first few times I explored like they were just this year (oh, crap, they were..), before I went out with experienced folks and it was just me and one or two friends. Man was I ever nervous/careful. I've gotten over that. I'm cautious, now, when appropriate, but not constantly in fear of getting caught!

You've probably seen my pictures if you looked through this thread, but in case you haven't: http://www.flickr....os/uewinnipeg/sets

If you see any Winnipeg locations that you wanna check out, let me know. I love showing new people old locations! But if you turn out to be a tagger, arsonist, or asshole, we may have to beat you up.

The TaBoPE school is still standing, and part of it is kinda intact. If you wanna check it out, you'd better do it soon. I'd be happy to go again if you don't have anybody to go with. There's always more pictures waiting to be taken!
