85 had the bucket type headlights and 86 they changed them i believe.
The J-spec and euro models came with a glass roof option too

I gotta find some odds and ends. But otherwise, she runs perfect, even with 196,000 on her carburated ass. Tall gears tho, dear lord tall gears. And AC? From what I read online they didn't get AC in the HF? Looks factory as hell tho, and hell, it even works lol.

they had some Honda accessories that were great. for example mine had manual windows originally and I bought the honda power window kit which replaced the handle with a plug that matched the interior and said "CRX" on it and the arm rest with switch box.
It looked perfect from the factory.

that thing looks awsome too BTW.
I once raced my 88 against an 85 and he stomped me, turned out he had a big motor stuffed in there somehow. either way, its scary as fuck at 180 as it really floats on the highway

Nice ride! I'd rock it. AC was a dealer installed accessory on most lower end models until recently. It still blows ice cubes in my '90.

I love seeing (mostly) rust free southern cars.

By the way, I hope the tape measure came with the car and you're not measuring for maximum exhaust tip allowance.

Lol, yeah the measure was in the car when I got it. Not much rust at all. Just above the rear wheel arches and below the right rear tail light.

I'm almost in to trade my XJ for that... The rust scares me because I'm used to Hondas from the 80's going from what you see there back to the earth in just a few years. Water gets in there and collects inside. Clean it up and keep the water out and it should be perfectly fine, though.

Check out http://www.redpepperracing.com/ as they're probably the most level-headed Honda forum you're going to come across. 1st gen CRXs don't appeal to the ricers because they're so old and don't have quite the selection of bolt-ons at PepZone.

Ok, so I spent the day going over it pretty good. Seems like the only rust is surface, which you see in the pics and a little under the passenger seat floor. Not bad really, but I'm kinda anal so I may try to replace that piece. Gonna need some damned seats. My dear lord, I seem to remember Hondas having good seats, but these suck soooo bad. And what the hell is up with the truck throws on the trans. Like I'm driving a Kenworth lol. Otherwise, I drove it pretty hard today. I filled it up last night from a little over half after dumping in a thing of fuel system cleaner. I think tho, I will need to replace the gas filters since it bogs a little over 4000 RPM, but you never see that anyway since the spacing between ratios is frugen ridiculous. 1st gear maxes out around 30 and second around 70! WTF Honda lol. But other than that, the engine seems to pull rather strong. The tires are tiny but full of tread so they shall stay for a bit. The wheels are unlike any I have seen. And the rear drums are aluminum? I don't get it. But meh, guess its a Honda thing. Oh, and after going through it a little more, not only does the AC come on, it gets cold. FTW!

to be honest I tl;dr'd most of this thread because I have a time restraint right now, I just thought I'd come drool in your lap in a comment for a minute. It took me five years to get my hands on one that wasn't rusted out and the fucker sold it to somebody else after promising it to me because I wouldn't sleep with him.
*sigh*

yeah, dude! aluminum drums! honda didnt go back to that until the insight. the shifter is no big deal to reduce throw, though. if you're handy with a welder, you can just lengthen the section of the shifter between the ball and the linkage joint. doesnt take much, though. remember, shortening the handle doesnt reduce throw at all, just reduces leverage! try not to run too much injector cleaner, though, that shit dries up seals and ruins pumps. best thing is to change the fuel filter and run high test gas. also, it wouldnt help to smoke test the intake system and look for vacuum leaks. there's a lot of vacuum connections in there, and they can cause all sorts of run issues.

now, when i say smoke test... we have, at work, this smoke machine. it produces the same 'smoke' as those machines found in nightclubs and whatnot. bascially, it pumps this smoke out of a hose and has several attachments depending on the application... the easiest is to cap off the air filter inlet and hook the machine's hose to a vacuum fitting. it will fill the system will very light pressure and if you see smoke escaping from somewhere, then you have a leak.

this machine is worth it's weight in gold! got an oil leak? pump the smoke into the oil cap and see where it's coming from. exhaust leak? cram it up your tail pipe! the machine's not cheap, so call around to some local shops and see if they have one. this test is WELL worth it!

Thanks Durdan! I don't know if we have any garages around here that have a smoke machine, I use to hunt down vacuum leaks with starting fluid I'm gonna check for oil leaks tomorrow, I know the valve cover leaks a little. Its not bad but they are easy to change. The engine is sooooo freaking quiet. It sounds kinda like an old sewing machine. I think I will change the oil tomorrow also. Tires could use a balance tho. Thanks for all the info you guys have given. I know this much, parts for these fuckers are far and few between.

I've seen those used to find leaks in the seals around the doors, windshield, and rear window. Very cool.

60hp of hamster fury. Well, its 25 years old. So, averaging about 4hp lost per year, I should be around -40hp. Feels about right.
