Depends on the season. Right now I'm digging old-school metal, in summer I like something a little lighter. I'd have to say metal overall, though. So much diversity and talent in the genre, truly an under-appreciated art form.
I'm a big fan of ambient-downtempo-lounge-electronic. stuff like Massive attack, telepopmusik, death cab for cutie, Emiliana Torrini, thievery corp., Zero 7 ... I'm a relaxer not a runner.
Death Metal here. Heavier the better, but black metal is a bit too far though. Bands from Lamb of God to Cannibal Corpse. Jobforacowboy is one of my current favorites. Like it for the raw aggression and the intensity of it, helps get my pumped up

The cookie monster lyrics are too much for me. The thing is some of the lyrics are really, really good but you can't hear them. Why do they do that?

Ahh, this. Plus Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Bibio, Explosions in the Sky, Flying Lotus, and Fleet Foxes.
nah, I'm with you but I'm more into the electronic and reggae type stuff more than Grateful Dead'ish type stuff.
I first saw the Dead in 1971, at age 4. I had some groovy baby sitters. I wasn't really into the Dead until I got into college, but then all the frat boys were going to shows to score dope, and that really turned me off. Later I discovered Phish, and they've grown to be probably my favorite band. Later I got into Widespread Panic (probably my 2nd fave), moe., String Cheese Incident, ekoostik Hookah (regional, Ohio-based jammers) and others. Railroad Earth is my current obsession. Seeing them Feb. 10th.
I'm also a taper. Current rig: Beyerdynamic MCE86II > Art Phantom II > Marantz PMD660. Here are a few of my recordings: http://www.archive...%22Scott+Plumer%22

I used to be a huge lover of all forms of metal, and I declared everything electronic as "not music". Then I heard a Drum & Bass song. Since then I've been an addict. (for about 3 years now - no other genre ever kept me in love for that long)
Probably my #1 is neurofunk drum&bass, followed closely by dubstep. After that come the all-time greats: soul, blues, jazz, trip-hop, ffffunk, and sometimes metal.
The only thing I just can't stand, no matter how many tries I've given it, is techno, all forms of it.
I have a pretty eclectic range but if I had to pick one genre it would have to be blues. Theres just a certain soul that really gets me, especial blues that have a strong harp. i.e Little Walter, James Cotton etc.

I love Fairport!

It's hard to pick one genre, but if I had to, I'd probably choose punk. Some of my favourites are Bad Brains, Crass, Zombie Vandals, Skitsystem, the Dropkick Murphys, Jay Reatard, Leftover Crack, Limp Wrist, Minor Threat and Propagandhi. The music is generally very simple, but the passion is hard to match, which makes it very special to me. Punk shows are also by far the most fun.
Metal and hip hop are tied for a very close second place. In the winter, these two genres make up most of what I listen to. Progressive/experimental metal and stoner metal make up most of my metal taste, with bands like Opeth, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Russian Circles, Tool, Kyuss, Bongzilla, Electric Wizard, Sleep and of course Black Sabbath. For hip hop it's mostly underground and some more mainstream stuff from the 90's. Some examples are Dalek, Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, Eyedea & Abilities, Atmosphere, Wu-Tang Clan, fbcfabric & Reindeer, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest and Jedi Mind Tricks.
For punk I'm really into the first wave LA stuff, bands like The Eyes, F-word, Geza X and the Mommymen, and Middleclass. Definitely on a Neo-folk trip right now, but I'm trying to break out of it. Anyone have recommendations?
