the new taurus is pretty awsome looking, and AWD too. caravan is hidious and boring. R/T version is pointless. i thought the Journey replaced it but then again I dont follow chrysler really. However my dad does have a huge Dodge ram that i love, but too big and high for me (im a lowered truck kind of guy)

You never knew the 70's did you. Read some old HOTROD mags from, oh say, 1977.

Exactly! The old custom vans were awesome!

i think he was meaning 302 and 351 Ford V8's...
one thing that I notice here is that all the dirtbag trailer trash welfare scumbags ALL drive either Caravan/Voyagers, Ford Contours or Ford Taurii.

Oh snap, forgot this was Car Talk, not Cook Talk Here's a joint venture minivan between VW and Ford, that unfortunately was very unreliable. Too bad, looks like a decent design, with 5 speed and diesel, the idea was good. Looks kind of like a first gen Oddyssey. http://en.wikipedi.../Volkswagen_Sharan There's a funny line in Bandits where one of the crooks says he wants to drive the Venture. 'I like it, it's roomy...'

i have most of those hot rod magazines, and im not that young guys. P.s, those vans were not awsome. (with the exception of the 21 window VW) when i think of a van from the 70s, i think of one with hand prints all over it and a huge sign that says free candy. I remember like 10-12 years ago i had to do an engine swap on this old panel van and it had a water bed and padded walls. hideous

While I agree the Caravan is no Custom Van, I used to have this small inflatable bed I got from the JC Whitney Catalog that fit perfectly in the Caravan.

You were born in 1982? Yeah, you didn't experience the 70's, and you can't get that from magazines. For JeepDave, myself, and many others, the vans were great. As far as the pedo reference, you will never see one in a custom van. They roll out in non-descript rust buckets. As for VW vans...Yeah they were cool looking and fun, but they are also one of the most underpowered vehicles ever made. Plus they would blow over in a stiff wind and they had no heat.

While I was born in 1985, I do have fond memories of my grandfather's 1983 Ford Econoline 350. He had a diesel in there; not sure which of the two, but as a 4 year old, we had some good adventures in that thing.

i love dirty porno vans from the 70s i remember in elementary school we had a book about them in the library

I was born in 79. I grew up on 70's HOTROD and other custom mags like Truckin. All hand me downs from my half brother. I loved the van scene. It was outrageous. I remember articles in those mags about how to make your 3/4 ton Econoline handle. WTF LOL. It was those articles that let me know no matter how abstract and pointless something can be, it could always be modded to make it better. I lust for a 60's Ford van with perfect patina and hardwood floors

Yes...but I didn't want to look like I was still in HS I've seen Caravans with the infamous Mopar Convertabed option; that looked like the great way to go if you had the money.

I did used to want to make a mini conversion van out of my '86 Caravan (like a camper van type deal) I miss that thing- it was the most basic one you could get (carbed 2.2, no headrests, one speaker AM radio... with digital tuner) Sold it in '01 with 485,000 km on it, only repairs had been a rad and 2 alternators since new. And the engine sounded like an eggbeater from day one.

i think its safe to say that you know that you have left behind the "Wine Women And Song" years when you start speaking intelligently about minivans. what. the. fuck.

born in 81', not 82, but close enough because its basically 82 if you look at the actual date. anyways, I see nothing awsome about those vans posted. And yeah, I agree the Bus was way underpowered, but ive never really been about power so its cool with me, im about low. if i had to choose and old van beside a VW, it would be a 60's dodge. (but id slam it on air ride

WTF was with those motors? I think a mopar mechanic told me once they had shitty wrist pins or something. Ahhhh, the days before the term refinement reached the automotive world.
