I wish I knew how to make a nice quality one, mine usually end up being made out of the random stuff I find in abandonments. The usual seems to be a rag of some sort (newspapers, paper from drywall, or clothing) tied to a stick (plaster wall backing, broken mop handle) and whatever solvent I can find in the boiler room. I guess it is nice that they are crappy for extra character, but the smell can be pretty bad at times. I hate to think what chemicals you're breathing x.x I've seen all kinds of nasties in boiler rooms.
