It seems like on subcompacts like Samurai's beloved Cobalt, they put on awful tires at the factory. But yet on full size and SUVs the stock tires are acceptable to me at least.

Not necessarily on the more optioned versions but DEFINITELY on the base models. I regularly see/saw Corollas, Echos, Fit's, Civics, Mazda 3's, Kia's etc... in for their first set of tire around the 40Km mark... most of them with VERY pissed off customers.

what frosted me and every other base Cobalt customer was that these tires just plain sucked... they had poor dry traction, poor wet traction, NO traction in the snow and were done at the 20,000 mile mark.

Most purchasers don't consider that when they make a new car purchase, and the manufacturers surely don't tell you. My first shop was 10 minutes from the Toyota plant in Cambridge Ontario - Lots of Corolla's running around.

I've seen some common ones pop up over and over. Newer Caravans 07-10 (i think) had an unusual 16" tire size that is rare in the aftermarket, and as such expensive...... and my favourite of all is guys/girls with BMW's with "optional" 19" rims hahhahaha oooh nice feature - pay 3 times as much for tires. It's often cheaper to buy 20" rims & tires then a set of 19" tires alone. Some days I love my business

Ah, I was looking at the wrong chat. 225/65/R16? I can think of a few more vehicles around here. I don't think its exactly a weird tire; just a new size.

at the time i bought my Cobalt SS, Pirelli was the only manufacturer that made a replacement tire to fit it... Kind of like the TRX debacle with the old Fox-bodies.

My 2002 Chevy Silverado came with 255/70R16's on it.

I'm about halfway through my second set of Pirelli Scorpion Zero 285/65R16's. I put them on about 30,000 miles ago, and I refuse to bitch about getting 60,000 miles out of a set of Pirelli tires. They ride so much better than the stock tires did.

However, it doesn't look like they make these tires anymore. I guess I'll have to find some different tires next time I need to buy.

my mom had a 2004 Silverado Extended Cab 4x4 with the 5.3L... the tire were Firestone Steel-tex's... she got some mileage out of them. They were getting smooth when the lease ended on the truck and she traded for a G6 sedan. The tires on the GSex suck... they are Uniroyals and I think my dick has more sidewall. The car has 23,000 miles and they are almost bald.
