Dam(n) fireworks.

Rather self-explanatory. Dam + Fireworks = a good time for all.

Tea lights - They're a pain to work with if you don't let them cool off before you pack them in. More is usually better. In the US, Big Lots sells them in 144 packs.

Sparklers. Wave them around crazily, make sure you stay in the plane of focus. You can draw but line patterns are easier.

Steel wool. I doubled the steel wool on some of these for more power.

Lightpainting the background, focusing in the dark, placing light sources for reflection...that's not fire board business. But it's important.

Sounds interesting. What's the electricity for? If you carry enough power in a drain to make tesla coils you're my hero.

Portable power, eh? This is off-topic, but this concept has many Many MANY creative possibilities, mostly in abandoned buildings and dead steam tunnels.

I'd shy away from taking any fire into a building, unless it's entirely non-flammable.

I'm actually not referring to fire at all (hence the "off-topic" bit). I'm referring to portable electric power that isn't a conventional gas-powered generator.

ah, good. So...what, disco lights? Fog machines? Work lights?

Nah.. think along the lines of Christmas lights and tapping into an abandoned building/steam tunnel's existing electrical system...

You could also run them off of batteries.

Batteries are fun and all, but having 120VAC power is nicer.

Iffy - steam tunnels can carry surprising voltages. If you find a plug that's one thing, but you can carry batteries and cut the christmas light strings. If you have 60 bulbs in a string, they want (120v/60 bulbs) 2 volts per bulb. If you have a 12v you can have 6 bulbs in series, electrically. Car batteries are heavy, Li-Ion packs could give you more-fun voltages.

120 VAC is rare - I haven't seen plugs in any of the steam tunnels here. The steam plants have 'em, but they're risky.

I'm talking about hard-wiring a portable power source into the existing 120V conduit, by simply removing a conduit box cover and hooking up my own wiring (..and yes, I know damn well how to do this).

As long as you've got dark steam tunnels it'll be crazy. Ours have no lightswitches . If you know the electronics, go for it - but don't get caught with repairman's tools ;)

More power to you! I don't have the stones for that, something about the idea I could stumble upon a 440v hookup and not a 120v hookup would scare me. I went the other (and expensive and heavy route), and got a 1500w power inverter and a deep cycle Optima. A few hours of cable splicing and bingo enough juice to power up and heat up my beefy Rosco 1600! Continuous fog without the risk of fire...

Sadly I only got the one shot before I used the fogger on a rental and it died, soon, soon it will be back!
