Posted by Agent Skelly Well bad news everyone. Code 54 means no signal from camshaft sensor as I read the code chart wrong. I double checked the wiring harness and it seems OK. Double checked the camshaft sensor and it seems OK as well. I went ahead and replaced the crankshaft position sensor; but still won't start. Even my father came out and checked everything and he can see why I am frustrated on this. I'm going to have to take the XJ to...A REPAIR SHOP (gasp)

Change the Cam sensor. I know it "tested" ok but change it anyway.

Well, I have a super strong pulse coming out of it so I really don't think it's the issue. I called up one of the guys in my SAR who runs a shop and he said he would come by in the morning to look at it first before he hauls it off to his shop.

Well, I got the XJ back in service! My friend's shop figured out it was a combination of the camshaft sensor not actually giving a strong enough pulse and part of my wiring harness actually was FUBAR'd. My friend paid for the tow to the shop; I ended up paying labor just for fixing the wiring harness and the camshaft sensor itself; no labor on that. Ended up being 301.52 which was not too bad. And his shop is at a Jeep dealer so I ended up getting a Mopar camshaft position sensor.
