Took 'em long enough. Now I want a civilian version, especially with the Grand Marquis and Crown Vic disappearing and leaving us no heir apparent.
Thoughts?

I've heard conflicting reports that GM actually came to agreement with Holden so that they could produce this car at Oshawa Assembly.

both cars (the Camaro and Caprice) are based on the global Zeta platform... seems like a no brainer.

i want it! luckily the duplessis army up here keeps cars for 200 000 kms so the highway patrol ones should be on the used market quickly

The fleet manager for my local sherrifs's office said they will most likely place an order for the Caprice when they start replacing CVPIs. Portland Police Bureau wants to go all Mopar and will replace everthibg with Chargers and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

the rez next to my house is replacing its fleet of CVPI's with mopars

Oregon State Police disagrees They love their Hemi Chargers! They had some brake issues, but Chrysler fixed them.

Corresponded with GM today, they say a civilian version is on the drawing board. Apparently a lot of livery, taxi, and private citizens have been asking for one. Chevrolet is even more keen to do this now that Ford is backing out of the RWD V8 market.

you think that Ford would've taken a lesson from GM's titanic blunder when they shitcanned the Caprice/Impala SS.

I told GM in '96 they would regret that decision. Rumor mill said back then that's the only reason the Panther Platform was continued this long is Ford wanted GM's fleet sales. According to the rumor Ford had been planing to dump the Crown Vic/ Town Car/ Grand Marquis way back then (in the mid 90's) till GM essentially ducked out of fleet sales. A GM rep at their Mid-town Manhattan building told me "Fleet sales are something we can do without. Let Ford have it." That was in 1996.

i'd bet money that if Bob Lutz could've found that guy, he'd have planted his boot in his ass.

Well, I know one of reasons the Impala came back in 2000 was market research that showed that people were not happy with the Crown Vic, but there was nothing else sutible.
