I have been digging on Louis Theroux. He just went back to the Westboro Church to do a second film called " The Most Hated Family in the US in Crisis". Quite interesting. The one with the white supremest in California is good too.

I find his stuff on here:

Or just google watch louis theroux

I found a great one too...called "Lord, Save Us From Your Followers".

http://lordsaveusthemovie.com/home.html

It's on Netflix streaming. Which, incidentally, is worth the 8 bucks a month for unlimited streaming. I abuse the piss out of it.

Adding another one that is actually pretty good too...

"A Flock Of Dodos" about the evolution/creationism fight.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800334/

Also on Netflix streaming.

Restrepo was pretty awesome.

I also enjoyed Capitalism: A Love Story. Say what you want, Michael Moore is funny and makes his point.

Funny thing about Michael Moore. You know I'm a lefty, and largely (yeah, pun intended) agree with him, but his stunts, like going to the banks to collect on the money they were lent, I think detracts from his message. I know that's his style, but I think a lot of his good points are lost behind the stunts and the anecdotal evidence.

My problem with Michael Moore is his complete disregard for the truth. I agree with many of the ideas he puts forward. But sadly his facts are wrong, interviews misleading, and events staged. I feel like there is enough good solid evidence to back up the things he claims, yet he never uses it. He makes fantastic movies, but horrible documentaries.

That's funny, because I saw a You Tube video of a preacher claiming that the SS was made up of gays because Hitler found that straights weren't vicious enough.

Right now I'm slogging through Ken Burns's "The War." Only two hours to go!

Just watched "The Last Mountain" on Netflix. It's about the process of mountaintop removal mining in West Virginia. The premise is that these coal companies, primarily Massey Energy, the folks who brought you the mine disaster of 2010, tell people how wonderful this is because they're bringing all these mining jobs, while at the same time blowing the tops off of mountains, dumping the former mountaintops into the valleys, sometimes onto people's homes, and causing serious water and air pollution.

Also portrayed was a coal-fired power plant in western PA that I used to live near, and actually did a story on when I was a newspaper reporter.

Very well-made, moving documentary. It brought tears to my eyes.

On Netflix, "The Pruitt-Igoe Myth". Really well done and enlightening. One of the best I have seen in a while.

http://www.pruitt-igoe.com/

It began as a housing marvel. Two decades later, it ended in rubble. But what happened to those caught in between? The Pruitt-Igoe Myth tells the story of the transformation of the American city in the decades after World War II, through the lens of the infamous Pruitt-Igoe housing development and the St. Louis residents who called it home.

Searching For The Wrong Eyed Jesus: hypnotic, life-affirming, gorgeous road trip through the deep south. Trailer below, can't find a streaming copy. Worth it for first five minutes alone. Just watching the trailer makes me want to jump around and shout One of my favourite things in the world.

All Watched Over By Machines Of Loving Grace: about, err... attempts to systemise human behaviour and how we became accidentally tied to machines, I guess. Lots of wonderfully odd archive footage. Full thing here

Chlorine: pool skating. Full thing starting here

Surplus: consumerism and anger. Love the music, wicked editing and sense of humour. Full thing starts here

Realised I could carry on all night here. Fucking addicted to documentaries!
